Default Billy is planning to put out three to four archival releases a year

The Pumpkins were known for recording a lot of material. How much unheard music is in the vault?

Excuse my indulgence but when I look in the vault, it includes stuff that’s not Pumpkins-related, too. I’m trying to set up a schedule where by this year I’m releasing archival stuff every three to four months. I’m talking about an album’s worth every three to four months basically to infinity. I started heavily documenting what I was doing musically in ’94 and so there’s so much stuff there that could be released. And I think what’s cool is with streaming, you can put stuff out and people can participate in it without making a financial choice; it’s already included in the package they’re paying for. I think the vinyl market sets up versions for collectors but we’re back in a democracy where if people want to listen they shouldn’t have to feel they can’t. We want to reward people who want to listen to our music — my music — by giving them fresh stuff to digest and share. We don’t see any reason to sit on that stuff anymore. I really am not kidding. If I get what I want in terms of schedule, we should be able to put out three to four archival releases a year for the next 20 or 30 years, easy. And that’s not including what we’d produce from this point on. So basically to infinity.

Whole interview

thought this bit was interesting:

Is this the best incarnation of the Pumpkins we’re seeing live?

I think musically right now, we’re very proficient. But I think it’s hard to dismiss what the band had in those other years because we could play a 45-minute improvisational song every night. There’s a lot of things that band could do that this band can’t. I think what this band represents well is every period of our music with great articulation and grace. We’re able to play everything from the smouldering ballads to the ferocious rockers. I think that’s pretty cool and I don’t think the old group could do that.

The old group COULD do that, but it's sorta refreshing to hear him give props to the original magic of the band. But also, fuck him.

Corgan already seems to fail in releasing the Machina reissue at the twentieth anniversary.

I'm reading a secret message that Strawtits will do the Machina "art"work...:

Linda erased her post for whatever reason...

This is essentially saying that SP1 was "the band" and SP2 (SP7?) is a theatrical review of that band.

You know, like Aerosmith's Las Vegas residency, except they tour.

Meanwhile, Sonic Youth share 11 concert recordings via Bandcamp (thanks for the link Tyler).

Quote:
We recently shared a concert video from Sonic Youth‘s 1995 show at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory in our daily listing of amazing live videos to watch while you’re home and every show is cancelled. Perhaps with a similar idea in mind, Sonic Youth have now made eleven show recordings available on Bandcamp. They range from the late ’80s (City Gardens 1987, CBGB’s and Cabaret Metro 1988, Moscow 1989) to mid and late ’90s (The Warfield 1993, Los Angeles 1998), to the 2000s (L’Olympia 2001, Cabaret Metro Chicago 2002, The Orange Peel 2004, Daydream Nation Live in Glasgow 2007, Berlin 2009), wrapping up with the band’s final US show, in Brooklyn in 2011. We attended that one too, and about it, Lee Ranaldo writes:

Aside from 5 previously scheduled shows in South America in November of 2011, this was the last Sonic Youth show. The last one in the USA, anyway. We were joined by opening acts Wild Flag and Kurt Vile, both of whom played terrific sets on this day. The stage was facing the East River from the Williamsburg, Brooklyn waterfront, and I recall the sun going down in the west during our set. It was a pretty magical, if kinda weird day. Fitting, somehow, that our ‘last show’ should be in New York City, our home and where it all began…

Revisit our 2011 pictures and review HERE, and stream that set below. Visit Sonic Youth’s Bandcamp to hear the rest of the live sets.

This is a weird cutoff point, since nothing by Billy was released in 2004.

Unless you're counting those Breaking Benjamin songs he did.

Yeah, the last time Billy put out good stuff was 2000 IMO. But I'm going to give Zwan, SP2 and his solo stuff another chance at some point.

I haven't listened to them enough to pick tbqh. The only one I have in my iTunes library is Houidini, but I think I might have liked Ozma the best? I have seen them live too, it was a great show. Buzz came out in a robe with weird psychedelic eyes all over it. Do you like L7, Took?
