here's the rub. if you like one kind of beer and not another kind, that's just fine by me. same goes for if you like dan brown. i think dan brown sucks, and i've not liked any cheap beer i've had either, but i don't make a big deal about it. the thing to keep in mind here is that you're the one jumping up everyone's ass in what is apparently a bizarre pre-emptive attack against imagined elitism. (a list of beers you haven't heard of is not elitism; it's just a list of beers you haven't heard of. why should that even be surprising to someone who has no interest in craft beer?) you see a bunch of people talking about something you don't care for and instead of thinking "hey, maybe there's something to this craft beer thing, perhaps i should give it another shot" or "it's not for me, but nothing's for everyone" you think "THESE PEOPLE ARE OBVIOUSLY POSER SNOBS PRETENDING TO LIKE STUFF TO BE COOL" that's just well that's not a sane reaction Last edited by Luke de Spa : 03-05-2012 at 04:51 AM. |

i thought this was fucking disgusting the first time i tried it, but on a friend's insistence gave it repeated attempts. now i love it. was a lot like getting used to blue cheese for me (i used to find that nauseating).
funny how easily the palate can be trained. jeffrey steingarten reckons you have to taste something eight separate times to defeat a flavour aversion. sounds about right |

I mean everybody does this to some extent - think of how many times you thought someone was "just being a wine/car/sports/weed/computer/video game/whateverlamehobbypeoplelave snob" at some point? If it doesn't interest you, or you aren't one, chances are you just write that other person's interests or hobbies off as being pointless. He just likes to hate on everything though, and you guys took the bait. I'm a little disappointed in the seriousness of the responses he's getting.

So he's either become completely unhinged or does nothing but troll. Either way, it's obnoxious.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the Pliny the Elder I had, I don't really think it justified the price tbh.

I should also add that it's not necessarily my favorite kind of beer either, but like I said it was good. And I can see why other people who are into them would really like it.

first of all beer aficionados/snobs/nerds/poseurs are profoundly easy to troll and it always comes back to how i drink natty light which i don't, i actually have a pretty diverse beer palate. i don't think anyone can make a list that only contains microbrews and really not be some kind of poser. it's kind of like when someone makes a list of favorite bands and there's nothing but obscure indie bands on it, you're just like "oh come on the mainstream isn't that poisonous." and for the record luke i'm pretty familiar with craft beers and i often find them to be profoundly overrated. It's not like I'm operating from a state of ignorance, I drink plenty of off-brand craft brews. None of them I find particularly noteworthy, especially the overproduced IPA variety. For example, microbrews i already mentioned that i enjoyed are real ale firemans #4 and austin beerworks pearl snap. Last edited by Trotskilicious : 03-05-2012 at 07:47 PM. |

FWIW the microbrews I put down are widely available in my area and very popular. Two are brewed in San Diego county and one is from a little bit north.
