doomsday clock has the sickest opening riff and billy's bored lyric delivery is perfect.

The cool shit on Zeitgeist sounds like it's muffled through a pillow behind a closed door
The bad shit is prominently featured above all of that. Billy talks too much and it's too esoteric. His voice is too clinical. His best lyrics are about personal relationships and human emotions, not vague musings about doomsday and political corruption

I think Zeitgeist is a solid album. I think both Zeitgeit and Oceania were negatively impacted more by Billy alienating people than the actual music.

Zeitgeist confirmed what Mary Star suggested: big willie was losing the ability to hear his own records. Maybe his ears are just broken. But they don’t sound right. They sound abhorrent. Especially coming off some of the lush warmness of how we were spoiled to get to hear big willie having been produced theretofore

no lol i mean maybe he started having hearing problems from all the gigs around adore/machina and started to take preventative measures in 2000. but whatever hearing damage persists in the studio and makes him produce like a dumbass

I'm a big, big Zeitgeist Truther. It's a good album. The Truth is its bad reputation is more a product of the circumstances and manner of its release than the quality of music. Maybe it's just that I'm burnt out on most of SP1 but if I'm going to listen to SP it's either this or Machina.
I believe they went (mostly) DIY on purpose, knowing it would sound rough. The "Behind the Zeitgeist" thing and the photos inside say it all really. WPC playing guitar wearing a hoodie. It was a "grunge"/"punk" recalibration/reinvention after the excess of Machina. 2 guys making music. No big name producer, no budget, no costumes, no makeup. Why they thought this was the right approach for the big reunion album and why they contradicted the whole thing with the silly corporate multiple versions shenanigans, silly costumes and rockstar bullshit is a mystery. |

I think Zeitgeist would have been a good album with better production choices and tracklist choices
If you add on Stellar, Zeitgeist, and Ma Belle and take out Doomsday Clock, Bring the Light and God and Country (or record them not like shit), take out bad intro on Bleeding the Orchid and take out the bad background vocals on United States, it would be way way better. Something like Tarantula 7 Shades of Black Bleeding the Orchid That's The Way Death from Above Come On Let's Go United States Neverlost Ma Belle Stellar Pomp Zeitgeist I would like to stick Starz on there but I don't think you can do Come on Let's Go + Starz. I like Starz way better but it sticks out as grating for sure. Although I'm tempted to put it on after Neverlost. Last edited by reprise85 : 11-09-2020 at 11:49 AM. |

they are both shit tbh but idk what else to put there.
doomsday has more potential i guess but it is a shit song plus is recorded like shit tarantula at least is recorded pretty well, no shitty-ass out of tune vocals and rhyming words with themselves. yes i know fight/night is not great either might be able to stick bleeding the orchid up there without the stupid intro |

i was just taking a dump, and i think the peaceful sounds of soft logs gently thumping the toilet water are better to listen to than at least half of zeitgeist

for all the bs Bill has talked in the past 20 years, "burning the lies off your soul" was not in that category
mostly 'cause of Chambo & Bill's own sweet, sweet leads, but even so |

I've always thought Doomsday Clock was pretty slammin'. That drum intro and when the riff kicks in is like a damn freight train. The biggest issue was the vocals being way too loud.
