All of this is laughable. They’ve never come close to the MCIS live era. And Ginger was most certainly not the best SP bassist. Totally forgettable. Couldn’t even tell you what she sounded like. D’arcy is 100% unequivocally the best bassist SP ever had, hands down.

How was this show infamous? I couldn't find anything in the setlist or any banter relating to it.

It's the one where WPC spent about 20 mins complaining about the breakfast he had at "The Alley Cafe" before leaving the stage when people started booing or requesting that he play some music.

I've been listening to the band for well over two decades and I still don't get the love for D'arcy.

Lol, I don't remember the breakfast thing (if it actually happened). But yes, he was in a terrible mood from the start because the arena was half-empty. Jeff had more stage presence than him that night. Before playing an American Gothic song, he berated the fans who showed up to see him for not buying it.

They'd been playing for around 2h40min each night, but after only 1h30 he decided the show was over and left. No goodbye, no encore, nothing.

Just listened to the bootleg at archive.org - the breakfast thing didn't happen. In fact, he didn't say a single word or acknowledge the crowd until he was six songs in.

The sound of SP changing over the years is directly tied to how Bill's changed as a person and that is why stuff often sucks these days. I've never been on board the "Sp without the original 4 isn't SP" train. ZG still sounds like SP to me - albiet SP trying to sound like SP with terrible production

If we lived in a magical world where D'Arcy came back tomorrow, shit still wouldn't live up to anyone's expectations, hopes, or, most of all - memories.

anybody who can play bass for the running time of the '90s Pumpkins shows is at the very least highly venerable

that said, the level to which some of y'all are rating her "the ONLY SP bassist" is kind of stupid given her biggest contribution to the band was almost certainly busting Bill's balls in the studio

yeah i fully agree, i'm just saying the bassists who followed her have done perfectly adequate (if not more) jobs being actual bass-players, it ain't their fault Billy C requires a higher degree of "in-studio spanking" they weren't quite prepared to provide!

Hmm I see what you mean. I don't have anything bad to say about the other bassists. It's just when I think of SP I think Darcy, James, Jimmy, and that one whinny dude.

Of course, I still consider Adore SP so ...

Ye, Adore and Machina's were pretty good too but chalk it to the remaining residuals left of Bill's 1989-1995 god tier writing. The fumes were enough to keep the vehicle going for a bit. SP really did end when Jimmy and Jonathan od'd.
