Wow, Fuzzy, this is like their 5 most popular songs. Please dedicate a few posts to explain your curation process.

Well, we're strictly talking about singles. I mean, I could've tried to be appear edgy and sub in some other singles that I really like as well, but those are my honest 5...

The Everlasting Gaze is song that sprung to mind, but really, is it better than any of those that I listed?

My top 5 songs would be a totally different story, but honestly, all those tracks would be strong contenders.

The whole process is really an exercise in futility though

When it first came out, on my first listen of Disarm I thought to myself "so this is the "Daydream" of this album". It sort of had the same acoustic strum / strings approach. Obviously it turned out to be a much bigger and more important song.

I bought the CD singles and really loved the b-sides, Soothe / Blew Away / Landslide / Dancing in the Moonlight. Was a nice little set.

They were supposed to perform it on Top of the Pops but were requested they change the lyric "cut that little child" as it was shortly after the murder of that child in Liverpool. But they refused and didn't appear.

Then they played the electric version on the Word which I disappointed with, I thought they just didn't care and it was a shame as they could've put people off the band at the time.

That's just my memory of Disarm.

It seemed at that time every alt rock band had an acoustic / strings song on their album, probably because of "Something in the Way". It certainly continued like that post-Disarm.

that's not at all true, but Rocket is a great track, & a lovably left-field single

if you took soma, mayo, rocket and hummer from sd

and

fused it with whir, obscured, and starla from pi:

you'd have the best tsp album ever

i mean i get that not everyone likes Quiet or Spaceboy but

surely we can all agree Cherub Rock is a perfect tune as well?

studio version in particular, that solo is inimitable

Siamese as a whole has maybe one "iffy" track for me so i won't even bother with this "unfuckwithable" selection business

I like Quiet more than Cherub Rock. Cherub always seemed a little too bandwagony. Still kicks ass though, just not one of the highlights of the record IMO.

Hummer is my one desert island SP recording. It is a damn near perfect distillation of everything I love about SP.

yah hummer is perfectitude

only problem with cherub rock is the 'let me out" lines where he sounds like constipated Sasquatch.

criticism of the bald lord studio vocals prior to Zwan (ok fine whatever i'll give you some of Machina) is a cardinal sin that even the highest penance is not guaranteed to wash clean

for sure the guitars on cherub rock are towering ziggurats of psychadelium.

Disarm really chills me these days. I grew up in completely abnormal circumstances in a broken family and my understanding of that as normal slowly changed through the years. I look back now and yeah, that one really gets me where I live.

Also I was at the dentist a few hours ago and Today came on. Almost smiled but couldn't really, being in the chair and all

How about those clanging bells and rumbling timpanis on disarm. Conveys a sense of “this is serious business we’re gonna sit down and talk about right here”

What an amazing arrangement this song got in the studio

Agreed. And Sweet Sweet is the only weak song on SD. It's not even a song. They could've gone straight from Silverfuck to Luna and no one would've minded.
