![]() My man, yeah mmmmm that rosewood fretboard feels so supple to poke, huh
I do not like the maple on usa strats, even though their frets are probably better |

![]() I assembled a frankenstrat from the maple neck of a squier strat pak guitar that sat unloved in the corner of my room for eight years with the body and bridge of a '57 reissue that likewise sat alone in a friend's studio corner for years. We sanded the body down, gave it a grey paint job, basically rebuilt it form the ground up with new parts otherwise, filed down a few uneven frets, put lace sensor pickups in it, and I'm proud to say that I now have the ultimate in DIY dollar store homemade Corgan ripoff strats. It actually plays really, really nice.

![]() to this day i still have no fuckin' clue where those BC Dimarzio pickups disappeared to after I bought them - they weren't exactly a cheap purchase and i'd had them installed in a different strat for a while
starting to think i was visited by a thief in the night |

![]() I have purposely tried not to delve too deep into the technical details and finer points of different guitar makes, because I know that the sooner I learn about that shit, the sooner I'll become dissatisfied with the guitars I've already got and will want to get new ones. And then I'll want one of these, one of those, one of the 1972 Wisconsin-made versions of those, etc. It seems like a bottomless pit of discontent I could dump all my money into.
I guess it's an Epicurean stance. Cultivate simple tastes, so that your tastes can be easily satisfied. Hedonism made as easy as possible. I might sound like shit, but it doesn't matter if I'll never know it. If a guitar looks good and won't break and is playable and sounds like a guitar, it's my favourite guitar. |

![]() I would be the most boring rock star to be interviewed in a guitar magazine.
"Tell us about your gear. What draws you to Strata? What tones are you going for?" "I saw this at a garage sale and it was the late afternoon and the seller wanted to close up and go to bed, so he just wanted it gone. I liked the colour. I didn't test it there, so I didn't know what it would sound like until I took it home. It sounded more like a guitar than a trombone or flute, and I really look for that in a guitar. Also, the guy threw in some picks and a a The Who fake book. I can play most of 'Don't Get Fooled Again' now." |

![]() You can make magic on shit equipment, it’s true, as long as you sit with a guitar in your hands for as many hours or days or years it takes to finally teach you the way guitars like most to be poked
That’s all you really need Everything else is just how easy does the guitar give up the magic, are you going to really need to sting it or what |

![]() Word.
There is a point where a tool can be so shit that it's only going to hamper your progress, but those are, like, those $50 acoustics on Amazon that always come in bright colours and will have the bridge nut chip off or the neck just detach from the body mid-song. I once had an acoustic that I couldn't even tune up to standard without the strings breaking. But beyond that really low bar, most any guitar will do just fine. |

![]() Although, I have has a problem with getting sustain at higher frets with my guitars, especially when string bending. And the high E string getting tucked under a fret bar.
I don't know if it's me, or the guitars. Happened with my Squire and Jay Turser Stats. |

with that said, if this happens to you on multiple guitars, it might be a technique thing, as well. |

![]() the Gibson guitar business is profitable. they also make good guitars. the 70s and 80s were a dark, dark time for Gibson ..those pancake bodies have some defenders but honestly if you covet a 70s or 80s Gibson over a new one then you're crazy..its like wanting a CBS strat over a current CS one. they're garbage and the whole reason the vintage market even exists
after inflation a les paul standard is cheaper than ever + they do some $400, $500ish american made guitars. cheaper than a MIM strat. the guitar biz is fine just they diversified too much and too stupidly. |
