  • Machina's hazy shoegaze
  • Zwan's spirituality

I would consider it the last real "Billy" album.
I can do without Zwan's spirituality, hence why I hated the Zwan album. A subpar version of the connections to other albums you listed, but I personally don't hear any SD, MCIS, or Adore in this album. I love Adore, so I just don't hear Adore at all in this. Plus it seems Billy only had 2 or 3 drum presets on this album. I find the production bland. Again, Billy's spirituality is what ruined most of his post-Machina work for me. It doesn't feel genuine coming from Billy. I've tried many times to listen to both The Future Embrace and Zwan, just doesn't do it for me. Not that I'm against spirituality. It's just I can't take Billy being all spiritual seriously.

Just relistened to TFE for the first time in years. This album has aged really well and I love it now despite hating it back when it came out. The guitars sound so unique and the shoegaze tone blends perfectly with the programmed drums.

The live sets sounded great too.

I think it was the last time he tried to do something new and different
(and it really is very unique, I don't know any other artists who does something similar)

then someone shouted "play pumpkins" at a concert .... It's all your fault anonymous heckler!

I just came to post something similar actually. Probably because WPC codex instagram thing has been posting a ton of shit from that era and it made me revisit the ablum.

It's legit good and I totally dismissed it when it came out.

The fact he did the "getting the band back together" ad on the same day it came out didn't help. He should've just let the album out and be what it was and go from there.

I really like it, I don't listen to it a lot and I don't think I've listened to it from start to finish more than once or twice. But whenever I dip into it I enjoy it.

I agree with the old post above, that it shares some DNA with SD, Adore, MCIS, etc. And the visuals were cool. I saw the show in Dublin and the stage set and sound was amazing, though Billy kept giving out to the sound engineer and kicked the mic stand over at one point.

Every time I return to The Future Embrace I hate it and then it’s like my mind got wiped and I can’t remember anything about it apart from Billy Corgan on ye olde bicycle singing “Walking shade” and wondering how he thought that was the hook of a commercially successful single.

overall it's pretty crap, but there's some good bits. sounds like zwan doing adore v2.0

mina loy is good, the ending reminds me of white spyder.
a100 is decent, chorus is good.
dia is great.

the rest is meh.

I didn’t read this whole thread but my standing opinion on this record is that half is brilliant and half is completely forgettable. Could have made an excellent EP

The song he was trying to remember was pretty pretty star, probably

Remember when we had a whole debacle about whether that was the best song on the album

Yeah, gosh we have fun sometimes, don’t we

tbt i think i just mixed up now & then and i'm ready

that's rare - if you had a gun to my head i couldn't tell you the difference between DIA & A100 though, even though i'm pretty sure one was a favorite off the album last time i listened
