Were their laws in those countries like the ones in Rusdia? I truly don't know, but the IOC likely won't shun a nation's laws.

There should be mass protesting of these Olympucs for these laws. The IOC has no spine which doesn't help matters.

i don't wonder why lots of people are calling to boycott the games but i can't understand why they would condemn the athletes who won't.

whatever their reasoning, i think there is a lot more to gain in not boycotting them. in the 30s Hitler was so pissed that jesse owens won all that gold and would not shake his hand. some turkish ladies who won in fencing refused to shake hitler's hand.

sometimes being the better person means not backing down. or whatever.

a boycott would be pointless if it's just a few random athletes. It would take many countries and their entire teams to boycott for it to have any weight with the IOC.

the Russian government doesn't care. And I'm sure they'd be happy if the USA didn't attend. That happened once and Russia simply won more medals.

Move over, GOP. Your homophobic rhetoric and obsession with gay sex just might be given a run for its money. Ana Maria Jimenez Ortiz, a Mexican leader and local representative of the PAN party in Puebla, had this to says to On Top magazine:

“Marriage should only be considered as those relationships in which the members have sex while facing each other.”

Jimenez Ortiz goes on to cite bogus science, saying that the scientific method has proven that true copulation cannot take place without eye contact. She adds:

“This does not occur between gay couples.”

Perhaps out of all of this demeaning absurdity, the most insulting, and also the most inaccurate, part of it all is when Jimenez Ortiz exclaimed:

“Who pretends to love decently using the favorite position of dogs?”

Of course, conveniently, this extremely homophobic woman fails to mention all the different ways that heterosexual couples have sex, including, yes, Ms. Jimenez Ortiz, doggie style and anal sex. As per usual with these types, though, Ortiz seems to have no problem with these things with regard to heterosexual sex. Only the homosexual variety is an issue to her.

With this, we’ve now heard all manner of absurd reasons for opposing marriage equality. We have also been privy to the continuing obsession with gay sex coming from the mouths of many right-wingers. I gotta, say, though, this one takes the cake. Not only is it grossly insulting and wildly inaccurate, it does what we have heard so many right-wingers do: reduce the love of same-sex couples to that of just sex. Sure, sex is an important part of most romantic relationships, but there is so, so much more. To devalue our relationships in that way, just because we happen to love someone of the same gender instead of the opposite gender, is reprehensible.

Shame on Ms. Jimenez Ortiz, and all others who use this tactic to deny the LGBT community our rights.
