Question Songs where Corgan implores the audience to listen

just off the top of my head: "Can anybody hear me" from Mayonaise, "This message is for anyone who dares to hear a fool" from Fuck You, "Have you ever heard the words I'm singing in these songs" from Muzzle. Anything else? (I guess you could take the "Listen" line from That Song I Don't Want to Remember the Title {Camera Eye} from The Future Embrace but, come on, its the Future Embrace.)

Is he afraid we're going to turn off the CD or walk out of the show if he doesn't ask us to listen or something.

Cheap lyrical trick, but it kind of does work. "Hey, man, I should, like, LISTEN, man, and be a part of this, y'know, message man". Gets me every time.

this is the song i've been singing my whole life
i've been waiting like a knife
to cut open your heart
and bleed my soul to you
i did it all for you
you and you and you and you

this is the sound i've been making my whole life
i've been waiting for this night
to clear up all the talk
although i'm selfish to a fault
is it selfish, it's you i want
you, i did it all for you

this love will stand as long as you
there's really no excuse
i did it all for you

these are the tears i've been crying my whole life
like an ocean of desire
i'm reaching through the noise
across the dusk of time
within the lilting lights
i am singing out to you

Why don't you make a list of songs in the original post?

Probably a stretch, but, Doomsday Clock:

"A message to our friends to get out"

Quiet implores a particular audience:

"Jesus, are you listening?"

Luna, also a bit of a stretch:

"I'll sing for you if you want me to"

Through the Eyes of Ruby:

"But no-ones asking for the truth, so let me tell you..."

Cash car star

"You gotta understand/Yeah, we hope you'll understand"

Rose March:

Can you see me?

He is imploring us to look at him I know, not listen to him, but still a similar vein.

Tonight Tonight

'Believe in me'

He is imploring us to believe in him. I know, its not listen to him again but I should get a point for trying.

He's directly addressing the listener. "Can anybody hear me?" "have you ever heard the words that I'm singing in these songs?" etc. etc. They're direct questions to the audience. Billy really, really wants us to listen to what he's saying specifically at that point. The question is, why? Neediness? The line the song that he wants us to pay attention to? To get the crowd to go "whooooooo"? Why?
