You guys are all insane. None of this is really happening. It's all in your TSP crazed minds.

Jimmy:

"We were talking about playing next year with the band and somebody asked me, you know, 'what's it like to coordinate that?'. I said 'it's like Grumpy Old Men 3, only there's three grumpy old men and one's a woman'. That's how it has gotten to be."

---

Jimmy:

"Do I potentially record some more music? Hell yeah, it's super fun. When Billy and I get together, amazing things happen."

Maybe the band are going to approach their reunion as rekindling what they had before Melvoin's death. Maybe they consider that to be when the band really broke up, like "What if we could go back and play that show as the people we are now?"

I wonder what type of album they would have made instead of Adore...

I think it would've been similar to Adore. They'd been saying in interviews that MCIS was such a big ambitious rock record, that their next record had to be a total reset of their sound.

But yeah imagine those mellon collie shows if everything went as planned. Silverfucks getting longer, band getting tighter and faster.

"Alongside the 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, these two New York shows were originally set up to be the pinnacle of the tour (and to some extent, the band's entire career up until that point)"

Would've been so great. I imagine like Brixton they would've brought back the opening acoustic set

I'm really curious to hear how James plays these songs now.

Jimmy's talked about in interviews how his playing has evolved since he recorded them, and how he tries to approach playing and celebrating the old stuff

Billy:

“Did Jimmy being sacked cripple the band?” says Corgan. “Oh, absolutely. I should’ve quit right then. Instead, I doubled-down on a bad situation, and it got worse. The band went into a Cold War vibe. People stopped talking. And with walking away from rock stylistically, I was burning my bridges.”

A-fucking men. I need to rectify the mistake of never having seen them back in the day. Missing the Machina tour has haunted me for years.

I'll do a goddamned road trip if I have to. Saving money just in case.

That's what absolutely every single person who attended told me the day afterwards, so I didn't feel as bad at first.

But even so, seeing them in their heyday at some point would at least be a memory I could have taken away, you know? After I came out of the Oceania show - first time I ever saw Bill in person live - I found myself wishing I could have just had the opportunity to see so much as him and James trying not to kill each other rather than just being bored off my ass. I'd have taken a lame Talking Heads cover. At least it would have been interesting.

I didn't realize people thought the Machina tour sucked. Listening back, it was pretty great. Band is super tight and playing some really cool stuff (pale scales, alt porcelina, etc)

Maybe a true acoustic album or EP...

Agreed, both shows I saw (orlando & clearwater) were fantastic. The band was playing so well at that point. Not the best set lists of all time, but if you enjoy Machina (I do) it was a really fun time. I mean, it was Billy, James & Jimmy playing songs like Mayo & Cherub Rock at their peak. You can't complain.

Manchester was fantastic...

http://www.spfc.org/tours/date.html?tour_id=840

For 1979 the band were dressed up, Garson and Chris Holmes (presumably) were the Gallagher brothers. Bill had a United shirt, James City. Aug de Mer was Posh Spice (although this may just be my mind/fantasy running amok) and I presume Jimmy did something too (George Best is ringing a bell but that's probably wrong)

Music wise, tinny bass and cybermetal but overall it was fantastic. My Blue Heaven played over the PA at the end. Sad I never saw the original 4 but it was worth a sleepless night in Whitworth Park halls and a tired journey to Notts.

Wish I'd bought a FAEOMM tee.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I am liking the few things they have done so far to get the wheels turning. I feel a genuine mystique for the first time in years.

Guess what? They''ll get back together and blow ass.Darcy used to suck at bass. Think 20 years of cocaine abuse has improved things? Billy blows. He can't sing and does shit like Sithradarathra. James is a nonfactor. See tinted windows for further details.

only jimmy is badass as always. but he alone (alas) is not enough. zeitgeist proved that. you all are getting psyched for shitegeist II. LOL.

This is a possibility, but if the band can address the issues that took the alchemy they once had away, they'll get it back. It's always there, but they have to be fully willing to be present in it and whatever it takes to get there or your view may likely be the prevalent one.

iow -- they can't Sonic Youth this reunion because we'll all know it and so will they.

Darcy sucked at bass compared to a lot of other rock bassists, sure. She was still good enough to play tour after tour for a decade.

Do people actually believe she's seriously been on drugs since the initial breakup or is that just a running gag at this point

Looking at those posters and thinking about the four of them coming back for the first time at Madison Square Garden made me cry... the last 10 years have made it obvious that Smashing Pumpkins isn't Billy and Jimmy, or just Billy. I'm crying thinking about the family getting back together. I just want them to be happy.
