THE STORY
Moonfire Ranch is a premiere Los Angeles venue with a storied and star-studded history beginning with S&H Green Stamp heir Lewis Beach Marvin III purchasing this Topanga Canyon mountain property in 1957 to becoming one of the most recognizable backdrops for movies, photo shoots and music videos in Southern California.

Moon Fire Temple is a sacred garden temple located in the Santa Monica Mountains with a 360 degree panoramic view overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Malibu and the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The temple was built for the 1966 Paul Newman film, Harper, and is featured prominently as The Temple in the Clouds. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Doors performed at the Moon Fire Temple regularly during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Artists who have featured their work include; Andy Warhol, David Nelson Rose, Bon Jovi, Mastodon, Thrill Kill Cult, 80's hairband Dokken's music video "Walk Away", Tommy Chong in Far Out Man and numerous Playboy shoots.

Take a 1967 Visit to Topanga's Green Stamps Hippie Ranch
We wouldn't think they'd let the squares from the Wall Street Journal up to the Moon Fire Ranch in Topanga Canyon, but they did, and they return with tales of the infamous hippie spot that hosted the Doors and the Mansons alike (Even if you've never heard of it, it's iconic, you know?). Lewis Beach Marvin III, the heir to the totally uncool S&H Green Stamps fortune (they were those stamps you'd get at the grocery store that you could trade in for prizes), bought the property in 1957 for $15,000 and "Over the next two decades, Mr. Marvin's estate became part-salon, part-muse for his motley crew of artistic friends." Those friends included, naturally, George Harrison, Andy Warhol, Tommy Chong, and Jim Morrison, as well as the Manson Family, supposedly, although the WSJ doesn't mention them.

The property is known especially for its Moon Fire Temple, but Marvin also raised his kids there--living spaces are spread between three buildings: the Round House, "a two-story living room built inside a water tank-like building whose interior includes porous rainforest-wood walls, a giant chandelier and 20-foot tall windows looking out on the Santa Monica Bay far below," and a geodesic dome that connects "to a trailer housing a kitchen next to one of the home's two bedrooms." There's just one bathroom. Power comes from solar panels and a backup generator; water comes from the sky. There are many stories out there of crazy llamas on the property as well.

It's hard to get a consistent accounting of the Moon Fire, but according to Ed Sanders's book The Family, "the place had been constructed for a 1966 movie called Harper, starring Paul Newman and ****** Bacall ... In the film, the structure on the high hill above the Pacific belonged to a "religious fanatic" to serve as a "Temple in the clouds." Sanders also writes that "occult ceremonies had occurred" at the ranch and says a police source showed him where the Manson Family had painted cultic circles in the temple in 1970.

This @smashingpumpkins promo shot was taken by —-> @oliviabee - who is so amazing and I’m so excited she was able to come shoot the band. This was taken at this wild eccentric location I found called MoonFire Ranch - the thing about this location is that it is only accessible by a dirt road. Not just any dirt road...this road was TERRIFYING. I grew up driving mountain roads but this was pretty narrow and on a cliff. Everyone saw their lives flash before their eyes. And all day we all knew we had to go back the same way we came... what an adventure. Look up that place you’ll see what I mean. #smashingpumpkins #oliviabee
Cool, they traveled that far to take a picture that looks like they could be in my back garden's conservatory .

One trick they might do is to give away a free copy of the new album to anyone that purchases tickets to a concert. Metallica did that for their Hardwired tour last year. Not sure if those count towards album sales but it can help increase attendance.

What a genuine idea to put the photos one underneath the other!

Is Corgan himself nowadays too lame for such simple connections...?

williampcorganGood day! Back home in Chicago, snowy and unfair as she is, with a week to refine lyrics for the 8 new SP songs, whilst also finishing hope a couple more solo songs. The solo album is currently between 16 and 18 songs, and still in need of overdubs. And speaking of overdubs, we'll be back in Malibu next week to sing shiny new lyrics and cut final guitar overdubs with James and Jeff. Busy! But good busy. And for birdwatchers, here are the titles for the 8 Smashing Pumpkins songs: Alienation, Travels, Silvery Sometimes, Solara, With Sympathy, Marchin' On, Knights of Malta, Seek and You Shall Destroy

Isn't Solara a TbK / Oceania / D4N song? I think I remember seeing this before...

Pretty full on day, with Howard picking at random which of the 26 STAR category songs to dive into. SOLARA was first, which went from a typical 90’s-type rocker to something that felt like it belonged. Next up was a song whose title escapes me, which in a previous demo had kind of a 80’s club vibe (in a good way). Unfortunately that went nowhere, and after 3 hours was sent off to COUGARLAND. It was getting late, but to keep to our *3 a day (or more) quota we got into it with a fetching song called
Oh, god save us

The Smashing Pumpkins Celebrate 30 Years With a 2018 Summer Tour
Ken Mack-Solden | February 16, 2018

https://s3.amazonaws.com/eventticket...ticles/304.jpg

Alternative rock icons The Smashing Pumpkins have announced a new tour for 2018 entitled “Shiny and Oh So Bright,” a celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary. This marks The Smashing Pumpkins first tour in nearly 20 years.

The original band parted ways in 2000, but has continued to produce records and has toured with different lineup variations since. Lead singer Billy Corgan has been the catalyst and frontman for all concerts.

In an interview, Billy Corgan says, "This show and staging will be unlike any we've ever done, and will feature a set unlike any we've ever played. For if this is a chance at a new beginning, we plan on ushering it in with a real bang."

The Tour

The 36-city summer tour will kick off at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ on July 12, 2018, and wrap in Nampa, ID at the Arena At Ford Idaho Center. The lineup will feature three-fourths of the founding members: singer Billy Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and guitarist James Iha.

After opening in Arizona, the tour heads to Texas for shows in Houston and Dallas. Additional July stops ******* Nashville, Louisville, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Uncasville, and Boston.

The tour kicks off August with a show at Madison Square Garden in NYC before heading to Pittsburgh, Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, Columbus, Chicago, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Saint Paul, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Seattle, Portland, Oakland, Sacramento and Los Angeles.

The remaining five shows in September ******* stops in San Diego, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver and the final show near Boise, ID.

About The Smashing Pumpkins

With nine studio albums and over 30 million albums sold to date, the GRAMMY®, MTV VMA, and American Music Award-winning band remain an influential force in alternative rock. The Smashing Pumpkins burst onto the alternative rock scene in 1993 with their second album, “Siamese Dream.” The group toured extensively while building up a strong following and their follow-up double album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s has sold over 20 million records.

Originally from Chicago, IL, internal fighting, drug use, and diminishing record sales led to the Smashing Pumpkins 2000 break-up.

"Some 30 years ago, as The Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha and I began a musical journey in the cramped rear bedroom of my Father's house. And so it's magic to me that we're able to coalesce once more around the incredible Jimmy Chamberlin, to celebrate those songs we've made together," shared Corgan.
