seriously who really cares about syria or the ukraine to be perfectly honest, americans that pretend to "care" about it are much more obnoxious than wasted youth that don't give a shit. at least they're honest

when i see you over there in Kiev with pussy riot then we can talk about "caring about the ukraine"

Vampire Weekend are like the exact opposite of everything hipster. They are the anti-Nirvana. They are unapologetically pop sounding.

another example of how hipster seems to mean nothing since it's always the person you're not

i mean do you need something other than Pitchfork Album of the Year to certify triple platinum hipster status, catherine wheel?

I thought V.W. was a weird choice for Pitchfork's album of the year since a lot of it sounds like soft rock and AOR stuff from the 80s.

Well by that I just mean to say that it doesn't seem to belong on that list. It sticks out. Not that I didn't see it coming. I know Pitchfork has a love affair with V.W.

i've seen a lot of people riding one-speed bikes. best of both worlds--looks like a fixed gear bike but you can still coast. being in a city means there's much more heated competition to be the coolest, with many more opportunities to parade yourself around in public. you get all kinds.

Lightness is p damn important for city riding. You don't need a Soho S but if you're on a beastly mountain bike you're going to want to kill yourself.

Wrong. Contra is awesome. S/T is annoying nowadays. Modern Vampires is a classick though. The problem with them is that every album has two shit songs on it, every time - Contra had 'Run' and 'Diplomat's Son', MV has the last two tracks are wack as fuck. S/T has 'Blake' and 'I Stand Corrected'.

But whattanincredibleband tho

I don't think too much about it, but I've always associated "hipsters" with people who have non genuine interest in alternative culture, to project a certain image. "Hipster bands" are, to me, bands that are phoning it in and are relying on formulas to make music with zero honesty targeted at those people. But of course this is all perception... Like, for me Bon Iver would fall into that just because I don't buy that their music is sincere and thus don't believe that fans would have a real connection to it.

i feel the same way, but i keep getting called a hipster so i'm just going to own it

it's impossible to like indie music/assorted other things without people accusing you of "trying to be cool"

no matter how much i genuinely like deerhunter it's always "yeah just like pitchfork does lol hipster"
