Default itt: writing utensils

what are your preferences regarding writing utensils? Personally I think nothing feels quite like a nice fine felt tip pen

http://kevinandamanda.com/scrapbook/...felttippen.jpg

It handles great, there's the perfect amount of response against the paper, and it's easy to write quickly as the tip glides over the surface with little resistance. My handwriting usually looks better with a felt tip pen as well.

gotta say the worst is erasable pens though. they feel all obtuse and clumsy to begin with and then you go to write on the next line and there's fucking ink all over your hand and smeared on your paper.

I guess I'm neutral on pencils at this time

oh but what the fuck is with pencils with erasers and then you go to erase and it turns out it is just a slightly rubbery piece of plastic or something and it just leaves black streaks on your paper? is that some kind of joke?

I guess with pencils I gotta go Dixon-Ticonderoga. I like the classics.

I like the Papermate Inkjoy 100 RT. They are cheap (less than $1/each) but they write so smoothly. I tried some of the more expensive/higher model # ones and like these much better.

Not a big fan of pencils, I only really use them for maths. But I do tend to have better handwriting with them. It's just too light most of the time to really use for notes. I had this cool pencil for a while but lost it:

It rotates the led slightly every time you lift up the pencil, so you end up never breaking it. Works quite well. Only problem is the eraser is small as shit.

Lately I'll pretty much use whatever is around the office, but when I was in college I would pretty much only use the Pilot G2-07. It wrote smoothly, and dried fast enough for my note taking speed.

I don't really care about pencils, but I guess I'll take a Bic mechanical over anything else.

haven't used anything besides bic mechanical pencils in years. the 0.9mm ones in particular are my favorite: http://www.amazon.com/BIC-Pencil-col.../dp/B001CD9RRG

When I was in middle school pens were judged by how much the grip molded to your fingers. The more gel, the better the pen was considered.

that actually makes sense because school is basically the only time in your life when you are ever required to sit down and frantically write many handwritten pages in one sitting. perhaps more so in high school, but we've all been at that place where your fingers feel like they are just gonna snap off if you have to write any more

writing by hand is torture for me I have terrible fine motor skills so my handwriting is terrible and it hurts and I would always break the lead on pencils

you write too cramped. you have to relax your hand.

if this were a catherine wheel thread it would be comparing pens not to pencils, but to spatulas or garden trowels

The ones I've been using suck, so I picked up a pack of these. They didn't have the 0.9mm so I got the highest size I could find, I think 0.7mm. Not sure when the next time I'll have a use for them will be. I've realized my experimental design and statistical inference class is much more experimental design than computational statistics. So I'm switching to pen for now.

This bitch is a 9mm cocksucker. That's the size of a fucking pill in your ass motherfucker.
it actually makes a big difference. if you have a heavy hand a lighter gauge will break the lead all the time. if you have a light hand the higher gauges will make your writing too light on the paper.

srs topic is srs

they don't look like much but they write like motherfuckers. i still take notes by hand so smoothness and reliability are super important. never have any issues.
