The new Deafheaven album is balls out amazing
Like... more technical/crazy Wolves In The Throne Room but kind of... warm? It's... comforting black metal? I don't know. But my dick is pretty hard about it.

Hates my story about listening to this. So I'm pretty sure there is one of them laptop chillwave acts called Sunbather right and out of 5,000 lo fi bullshit bedroom pop things there's always one or two that seem to be worth the time so when I downloaded this based on the cover I was like ok but then I unzipped it and it was a band called deafheaven which I like as a band name and hell I might as well listen to it well it turns out that I really fucking like it
So that's my story. |

Slow and steady wins the race. Gotta start with uptempo and pop and indie rock.
HOWEVER I have taught her to do the devil horns and do a decent metal growl. |

is this one of those anecdotal things I can point to where I downloaded it illegally but then ended up checking them out and buying a ticket and probably a t-shirt which I wouldn't have done otherwise

tribute is at: http://dogknightsproductions.bandcam...o-orchid-12-lp
features my absolute favorite newer screamo band in Lord Snow (members of Suffix / Raw Nerve / Lautrec / The New Yorker) but I can never tell if bands like them are actually popular or not because I live in the bubble of the Chicago / midwest scene Ampere is killer -- I just recently got into the genre and actually had no idea it was the dude from Orchid. listening to a bit of Loma Prieta and Adobe Homes lately as well |

Couple of albums you should check out:
Knotwork - Demorrr/7" (available on heaps of blogs/slsk as a single package) Gospel - The Moon Is A Dead World Slightly weird, extremely well crafted, mostly instrumental, long tunes. Not really that heavy like Orchid, just like... super well written. You know that thing where an artist works really hard for decades carving out a niche, only to have someone who worships them come along and kick their arse at it and do it way better and more definitively than they ever could? There's a song on this album with the lyric (naturally barked in distressed Fugazi goat vocals) "Hey there, ya got a cigarette man?/Y'know I know ya got one on ya/I usually keep mine in the backseat/But its buried behind all the rubble." and if Isaac Brock has ever heard that song I bet you a hundred bucks he cried himself to sleep that night. ANYWAY I'm getting distracted. Envy - Insomniac Doze Shoegazey Japanese Skramz. Prty Influential apparently. Jesu, Mogwai, Converge, all cite them as influence and this record is pretty much the prototype for the new Deafheaven album. Circle Takes The Square - As The Roots Undo This one is really polarising. The production is weird, the transitions are jerky, they use male/female vox in a round/call-and-response/singing different things over the same part, it sounds fucking cool when it comes off. Some of the dudes vocals are pretty cringey but. This album took me a while to get into but today i'd put it in my top five albums. As a whole it's really well written and ordered, and the music itself is crazy good. and fuck it, even though they're definitely not skramz, here's bolt thrower, cause everyone should listen to Bolt Thrower, the 80s answer to Pig Destroyer. |
