Default The new NOFX album First Ditch Effort

A new NOFX album came out a week ago. It's some of their best work in a long while. Really great album, super energetic and a more kind of dark theme.

A few of my early favorites. For those skeptical: if you like super melodic infectious music you'll love these

I mean come on, those 2 are pop-rock gold

Another one of my favorites:

A dark song all of us alcoholics and addicts can relate with

Classic raw, angry and honest NOFX

I think this talk of artists needing to evolve is largely a crock of shit. Bands always try it and it usually ends up for the worst. Tear Garden by kaleidoscope anyone?

my real point is that NOFX sounds like the type of punk you like as an adolescent before getting into "I'm in my early 20's" punk

Couldn't anybody else come along and point out that Hummer is better than Spiteface?

Of course, but really, I'd argue SD is the high-water mark. Of course MCIS is great too but after that all of the "evolution" and "moving forward" was a total detriment to the Pumpkins sound.

Evolution can be good or bad, but where did creative stagnation ever get us?

It's the old saying: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The problem becomes when an artist purposely try's to mimic something that came out organically at one point and years down the line try to ape the sound for monetary reasons.

I don't find that to be the case with NOFX. In fact I find the melody twists to be a lot more unpredictable and well written on some of their later career albums than any of the ones that their fans deem as "classics".

Yeah, the new Green Day album sucks. There's another example of a group "trying to evolve" and what we're left with is some boring dinosaur rock knock-offs.

Check out this track: One of the main central melodies is a clear-cut rip off of While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I'm actually kind of sad that Green Day sucks now. But it's been a long, slow decline in progress over the years. But there would always be a few good songs to keep me into em. This new ones just crap though. The equivalent to Weezers Make Believe for me.

While I can see how this might apply to functional goods like tube socks, I'm not so sure it belongs in the context of art.

I like the new Green Day album. It felt like the band picking up where 21st century breakdown left off but without littering the thing with way too many songs.

Billie sang that about 2 meters from me in 2010.

Most people on the Green Day board are just loving it and the reviews have been sensational. The only review I actually agree with is the one from Pitchfork

I mean the execution of the songs is good and what not but there's just nothing that I really wanna go back and revisit. It all just seems so middle of the roadish.

To be fair, there was only 3 or 4 songs I really liked off 21st century Breakdown though... But at least it was something

That was a great tour. I was right up on the floor too. I kinda wonder if BJA's gonna be able to put on the same sort of all out show now that he's sober.
