who here is knowledgeable about cameras?
I'd like to learn more and would appreciate some suggestions for where to start.
last time I bought a camera was in 2005 and I'm sure the camera on my phone is lot better than that one was. I'm planning some travel this summer, haven't really traveled at all in the last 4 years, and want to capture some nice pictures. thanks |

My sister signed herself up to a short photography course, so that she could have better photo material for her blog. There was a definite improvement in the photography after that.

if you're of a mind to geek out – and you probably should be if you're considering buying anything with interchangeable lenses – go here: http://www.dpreview.com

i'm not knowledgeable about cameras, though. i started doing research because i was curious and thinking about springing for an entry-level micro 4/3. ended up opting to focus on other things but dpreview.com really is great

dpreview.com is a great starting point.
You'll have to weigh mirrorless vs dlsr. |

I bought a Canon T3i a few years ago and had every intention of taking Good Pictures, but ended up using it as a point and shoot like an idiot. This reminds me I should take time to learn how to use it like a real person. Thanks.

read the book 'understanding exposure' by bryan peterson. i think that was the book...i lent my copy and it was never returned. this will help you to understand exposure and the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and iso.
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/77070...dition)_New_Hi reading a book probably won't develop an eye for composition on its own, but 'within the frame' by david duChemin is a great book and will definitely help. definitely give you certain things to look for when you are out and about with your camera. http://www.amazon.com/Within-Frame-J...thin+the+frame next step, read the camera manual cover to cover. i know canon's manual did a good job of explaining not just how to use each feature, but when it would be appropriate. next, shoot in raw, get adobe lightroom, and learn how to properly process images. this will make a world of difference, and something that most people that just go out and buy a 'fancy big camera' don't do. are you planning on buying a new camera for your trip?

yeah planning to, but thinking about it in practical terms i',m not going to be able to make any time to read books on it, aside from what i can read on the flights over.. so i guess i'm going to be trying to find a camera that has a decent amount of "idiot proof" stuff and doesn't require much technical knowlege to use
