Post Your Guide to Control Pads (for your PC)

Now that you have some decent emulators, what you need next is a decent method of playing on them.
Using the keyboard isn't really viable for most games. (works ok on tetris though)

I've found that PC pads usually are pretty crap, microsoft pads aren't that bad.. I suppose the "sidewinder" is OK. http://www.microsoft.com/japan/hardw...gamepadpro.jpg

But there aren't nearly enough buttons on it though.

So you should use your console gamepads instead, via the use of an adapter.

PSX to PC
In my opinion, the psx pad is the best.. so you should get something like this:

http://image.lik-sang.com/images//17...yconverter.jpg
this is one of the ones I have. It's not bad, it supports directX vibration.
(for those lonely nights)

but i think this one is better (it does the same, except for 2 players) it supports rumble.
But i think the downfall is that it's not usb, and it requires an additional power source. http://image.lik-sang.com/images//17...ockadapter.jpg
you can get these at http://www.lik-sang.com/catalog/prod...p?category=55&

the newest one though is called the "ultraimpact" made by smartjoy.

http://image.lik-sang.com/images//17...ltraimpact.jpg
this is quite a new one..
it allows 4 psx pads to be connected simultaneously.
However i don't think it supports vibration, and it's not a USB either..

N64 to PC
If you prefer the N64 pads, try this:
http://image.lik-sang.com/images//90/n64_psx_usb.jpg
it can convert either psx or n64..
ok?

I really like the SNES control pad. Is there an adapter for those too?

I use a Gravis GamePad Pro USB. It's not great but it's pretty good for playing NES and SNES games and it was real cheap.

The Thrustmaster FireStorm Digital IIworks well, and it's only $10.

I got one for free when I bought my Ferrari steering wheel and it works great for the SNES games I've been playing.

yeah i think there are ones for the snes..
but why don't you just use a psx one? You really can't bear to 'sell-out' can you http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/tongue.gif

the snes pad is actually very similar to the psx one. It was modelled upon it after all.
except that the psx pad much more ergonomic.

Yep. I always found the SNES one fine, but going back to it after years of using PSX it is very awkward.

Thumbs up

i have two gravis grip pads that are shaped like psx controllers. whats great is how you can daisy chain them together. they are supported by zsnes, im not sure about other emulators though.

my snes gaming rig:

AST Ascentia P Pentium 166mmx laptop with 40 megs of ram, 6gig harddrive. this is one of the only laptops i've seen with a built in gameport. great for gaming on the go.

I'm gonna invest in a nice PSX adaptor soon - any that use a standard gameport? (but don't need extra power?)
