I would love to hear people go track by track and bitch about what they don't like about each song. Not joking or being crazy in the slightest.

lol I have no idea how "bad production can ruin an album" turned into a straw man induction of the opposite (that good production can make an album regardless of content)

but Taylor Swift's music is hella easier to listen to than most of Zeitgeist.

I mean if bad production can ruin a good album than surely good production can save a bad album. This is just using your math.

you should take a logic class. If A then B is not the same as if B then A

i actually think zetigeist is... sorta ok. i really like pomp and death from above and zeitgeist the song. i like neverlost, bleeding the orchid, tarantula, and starz. i almost like united states and come on let's go. the rest i don't like. it's definitely better than monuments

There is actually research which supports the idea that most people respond much more strongly to negative emotional stimuli. e.g., in rating positive and negative emotional reactions on a scale of -10 to 10, 0 being neutral, people who find a $20 bill on the ground might say it made them feel 3, kind of good. But people who discover they have lost 20 bucks from their wallet are more likely to say they feel something like -8, the experience ruined their day

On the real thought I feel like people hate this album because billy dumbed down his rhythm playing while not noticing or just not acknowledging that he amped up his solo playing.

Doomsday Clock - starts off promising and Bill's vocals just sound half-assed with no power to them. The whole track lacks conviction; it's like someone trying to punch you with a limp fist. That's how most of the album feels and it hurts nearly every damn track.

7 Shades - No real problems with it apart from the fact that the whole record's produced like shit and keeps it from having the punch it almost does; see above. It's MCIS lite basically.

Bleeding The Orchid - that FUCKING BILLY CHORUS WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. Bad vocals again. A fucking shame because the song was kinda promising.

That's The Way (My Love Is) - One of the album's better moments. Gotta love that solo.

Tarantula - Has balls. Not bad. Fucking Corgan Chorus again though.

Starz - Cringeworthy goddamned chorus which really highlights the soon-to-be-worsening problems with Bill's vocal delivery. We - a - staz. We-aaaa.

United States - Kicks ass. The thing that really gets me is how much better this whole fucking thing could have sounded.

Death From Above - Should only exist in the IAGW piano format which feels way more earnest. The comparisons to a flying robot cartoon theme song have been made and they're spot-on.

Bring The Light - Repetitive as all fuck

Come On (Let's Go) - Just forgettable. Meanders and doesn't go anywhere. And I just realized I was actually thinking of For God And Country when I was typing this. So fuck that song too. Ah well, I guess I kinda like the little buildup section.

Neverlost - Personal huge favorite of mine actually.

Stellar - Why was this NOT on the damn album? "The wait hurts worse than the blows" is a fucking great line. The song's heartfelt.

Ma Belle - Feel basically the same about this one. It's actually moving, like a proper SP song should be. The whole thing just takes me away. These two tracks have more emotion than 95% of the record they should be attached to.

Pomp and Circumstances - I just can't take Bill's vocals on this one. It's horrendous, incessant, and grating to the point of making my damn ears eache. Why the fuck wasn't Zeitgeist (track) the album closer instead? Well, it is on my playlist.

It doesn't sound particularly dated to my ears, and I don't hate the album. It's just...lacking. Half-decent and could be way, way better. Most of what come after it just cast it in a way better light.

I think what bothers people about Z so much is that it's not a good album, but the ingredients are there for what could have been a decent album, or at least a better album than what we actually got.

It's easier to dismiss Teargarden or Monuments because they have no potential to be anything better

I mean I'm not trying to prove crabshack's nonsense point, but yeah, better production could have improved the listenability of the album. Doomsday Clock will never be a good song, but if the vocal take didn't sound like me whining to my boss as I call in sick to work with a head cold, it would definitely not be as hard to listen to

Not gonna lie: I was actually really curious to see how the ZG reissue would have panned out, because I think he mentioned he was going to remix that one too (?) Could be wrong.

7 shades of black is okay in so far that it's Cherub Rock with horrendous vocals and lyrics

There's about 30 seconds of awesome in United States the rest is so goddamn boring

Doomsday Clock has the best verse of the album but a terrible chorus and it just didn't need to be 3 and a half dragged out minutes

IIRC his mission statement for the album was to write about the changing of the times as he saw it, shit like celebrity (Starz), war and security (FGAC, DC, US). But the whole thing's just unfocused, not at all cohesive.

When I consider it, most of the songs that actually stuck with me are the ones where it doesn't feel like there was a specific agenda to them and he was just talking about personal shit, more or less.
