Saw Hrsta / Elfin Saddle / Carla Bozulich / Thee Silver Mt Zion.

Carla Bozulich played for 40 minutes, without one single fucking upstroke on her guitar. How rude and irritating.

Saw the Twilight Sad on the 15th, which was a rad show. I got there just as Errors were finishing. I purposely got there as late as possible because I didn't like the opening bands.

Bruce Springsteen on the 17th was dope; they opened with a cover of "Kansas City" and the show was a lot of fun, despite being in the nosebleeds.

Drove to Chicago for James Iha on the 20th; that was a good show and the opener (Scott Lucas and the Married Men) was good, as well. I got to meet him after, which was dooope.

Next shows are:

11/29 - Coheed and Cambria (rescheduled from 10/27) @ Midland by AMC in KCMO
12/01 - Now Now Sleepyhead/ Late Night Callers (local bands) @ recordbar in KCMO
12/22 - Kill Hannah (annual Christmas show) @ House of Blues Chicago
12/29 - Not a Planet/ Antennas Up (local bands) @ recordbar in KCMO
01/18/13 - Jeff Mangum @ Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS

this was one of the best performances I have ever seen. however it was by far the worst audience I have ever had the misfortune to be a part of. It was basically 2 and a half hours of mind melting guitar solos, and no one would stand up. Second song was Powederfinger, I got on my feet and started rocking out, and during the second verse some old lady behind me told me to sit down. There were old people on their cell phones fucking everywhere through the whole show. Every time there was any sort of noisy breakdown or extended feedback, a shit ton of people ran for the exits. At the end of Walk Like a Giant, there was somewhere around 10 minutes of crazy distortion/feedback jamming, and the guy next to me put his fingers in his ears after a few minutes and walked out, muttering, "This is too much! This is toooooo much!" Some people started yelling, "Play a song!" The old dude across the aisle from me fell asleep. It was fucking retarded. If Crazy Horse ever tours again, I will be on top of my shit and make sure I get pit seats because maybe all these retarded sexagenerians can afford to pay 100 bucks for a ticket and not enjoy a show but I can't.

Moving from Manchester to Cambridge has reduced my options considerably. I only have tickets for these until March:

Frightened Rabbit
Sigur Rós x2
My Bloody Valentine

coming up, Toronto shows:

Mac Demarco - 12/15/2012 - XXXmas @ Silver Dollar
Yo la Tengo - 02/09/2013 - @ The Pheonix
Tame Impala - 03/09/2013 - @ Kool Haus

Concerts I recently saw: (sorry for big gay post)

Limblifter - 11/30/2012 - @ Lees Palace.

A 'reunion' for a band not many people may have heard of beyond a few Big Shiny Tunes hits back in the 90's. Very tight performance - songs still hold up. I was right up front and I could still hear the vox. Fuzz was dirty, crowd needed to loosen up. Excellent set.

Trail of Dead - 11/20/2012 @ Lees Palace

This show was pretty loose, but in a good way. The setlist was loaded with the hits. They embellished almost every song with a noisy passage and/or extended intro. When they couldn't tune properly before one tune, Reese threw his guitar on the ground and jumped into the crowd to sing "Caterwaul". Not missing a beat, the guitar tech ran across the stage and played the other part.

Mac Demarco - 11/14/2012 - @ the drake hotel

Really like this guy. The whole band had a have a very loose vibe and it was refreshing. That is not to say that they didn't nail it down. Whenever someone in the band fucked it up, no one missed a beat. They were pretty goofy onstage and they teased "Blackbird" about 3-4 times throughout the set. Mac broke more than one string.. (no backup guitar, wtf?). The songs stood above all the mayhem.

Dan Deacon - 11/09/2012 @ Lees Palace

Dan had two drummers and monitors pointed towards the audience, so it was loud as fuck. Its kind of like going to a flaming lips show, but instead of confetti and spaceballs its a ringmaster telling you to sit down and do dances and shit. Probably the biggest pit I've seen in Toronto in a long time. (and there were no guitars on stage...?!). There was one point where he made everyone pull out their phone and boot up the "Dan Deacon" app for a song from his new album (True Trush). Everyone had their iPhones in the air displaying different colours that bounced along with the song and it was p cool. Some people may call it gimmicky but it was good to see everyone moving ... whatever it takes to get people involved I guess.

Tamaryn - 11/03/2012 @ The Garrison

Tamaryn do the My Bloody Valentine thing pretty well. The place was completely dark save the one rotating kaleidoscope lightbox that enveloped the stage. The ambiance was there. Singer was draped in her blonde hair all set but they sounded fantastic.

Coheed was great as usual but the set was short. The local bands show was okay but I wasn't into them all that much. Kill Hannah was just okay at their Xmas show; my second year going but they seemed less than energetic so i may skip this year's and just to to chicago on New Years instead. BB local band show on Christmas was very fun plus I was with my friends.
