Default What do you collect? ***The Collectors Thread***

Do you guys collect anything? Just for a hobby and what not?

I collect: C.D.'s/Cassette Tapes/Vinyl
Obscure VHS
Sports Cards/Vintage movie trading cards
Old 80's/early 90's Toys along with any newer stuff that tickles my fancy ( I have some Breaking Bad/Family Guy/Napoleon dynamite toys and other shit like that)
Any kind of rock and roll memorabilia.

Any of you guys have fun just collecting shit as a hobby?

Even though it's kind of on the edges of what one would consider as "collecting" your love of horticulture definitely fits the topic.

Being good at horticulture sometimes but not always comes with being good at botany.

Yeah but like, part of the fun of being a flower enthusiast is going out to nursery's and seeing stuff that catches your eye. The hunts a large part of the fun.

It's the same mindset with collecting old nonsense like I do. The thrill of the hunt as they say.

I dunno. If anything it might be a sign of depression.

I mean, I realize with trading cards ( it's probably my most extensive collection) that I spent more than I'm gonna be able to ever get if I resell em, so it's not even a very logical investment but it's just the collecting and hunt that's enjoyable.

It's just stupid quirky shit that sorta reflects what you're interested in. And if nothing catches your eye to collect it might in other means me that you're not interested in much.

I don't actually do that because it's hard to get good houseplants anywhere but online. I also order
Garden plants online or buy at native plant sales (I go to a very progressive school) at the school. With houseplants it is mostly look but with garden plants it is ecological impact

I have a vast collection of Moss Man figures from the original Masters of the Universe line put out by Mattel.

They've been kept in a sealed and climate-controlled room ever since mildew and moths working in conjunction brought about a sort of sporophytic genocide.

My best friends dad hoarded sealed toys of all kinds, even fast food kids meals toys. Had an entire room in his basement with three walls floor to ceiling shelves of toys. Always wanted to play with em so bad but we never broke any seals

Wonder if he ever made millions

I'm not interested in many material things. I don't mean that in a holier-than-thou way. I just want basic stuff, a bed, a microwave/stove etc, a coffeemaker, some basic furniture, a few pots and pans and whatever. some cat furniture for my cat. i dont have any art on my walls. if i had enough room i might put some books on a bookshelf. as it is i have no bookshelf.

you might be onto something with the sign of depression. or perhaps, when did you start collecting stuff? as a teenager? i kinda didn't have a teenage-hood. not that it's some critical period where you couldn't start doing it later, but uh... i used to collect SP stuff when i was like 12-14 before my black hole from 15-19 years old

Never collected much other than my own journals (dog eared sewers of self loathing basically) but this year started snagging old NES and SNES carts. Stuff I rented as a kid but never owned

That sounds awesome man. A lot of those old toys from the 80's and 90's are at their peak value right now. Ninja Turtle toys that were mass-produced more than any other line are even fetching great money

Well I collected stuff as little kid, and then through teenage years It was put on a halt and I guess it wasn't until I was in my 20's again and started making more money that I took it back up.

I mean, don't you get bored by looking at blank walls?

Ahh right on man. I collected for years too. Sold it for a nice profit last year when I needed the cash.

Right now collecting old games is just too expensive. Everyone want's top-book dollar for em. Though on E-bay the prices are reasonable. I really should start an account. But it takes out a lot of the fun of just picking it up when you come across it

If only I'd mentioned the speakers placed throughout the room that play the title track from Weakling's Dead as Dreams on indefinite repeat.

On another note, if you have old cartridges, I don't think you'll ever make more on em as you would now. The collectors markets currently at a peak high. Who knows whether it'll last?

Isn't collecting a bunch of needless shit more a sign of depression than being content with the simple things in life? In my experience, I was spending the most money on useless shit in the most desperate times of my life.

I don't make a habit to collect much these days. All part of my plan/fantasy to eventually take flight when my old dog passes and I've paid off the post-divorce debt. Nowadays, when I buy a new DVD, CD or videogame, I usually sell something off in its place to keep the balance.

Oh man, the purge of useless junk I made back in the summer of 2015 when I moved would make the average person vomit. But it felt soo damn good to rid myself of so much crap.

I'm sure my local Goodwill appreciated the donation of 300+ VHS tapes.

...as did the local landfill, when I donated about as many VHS tapes with stuff I recorded off of TV in the '90s.

I still feel kinda bad for that, but I honestly don't know what I coulda done with 'em. I was in a time crunch and I could be fucked if I was gonna bring that garbage with me.
