Default "Burnt Orange-Black" (new song)

>>>

Quote:
DOWNSIDE MAGICAL S%#@

April 2, 2014

Long, long day, but I’m happy to report we’re now past the halfway point as far as the 26 we began with. Started with ‘THE HUNTED,’ which if you may remember was one of those riff-type deals that had gotten the gussying up; chorus-style. Having added in some parts this morning, I was happy that my partners were receptive to the tweaks. Score: 1-0. ‘RUN TO ME:’ we decided there was no need an updated demo, and moved on; quickly. Score: 2-0.

“BURNT ORANGE-BLACK’ was next, and this is one of those songs that has that timeless ring to it. Slow, languid, but powerful, with a set of changes you could jam all night on. But…Howard said, “It’s no single,” and we agreed. Not that every song has to be a single, mind you, but ‘single’ here is code word for’ it could be better,’ or ‘this idea has more potential that it’s showing.’ With that I tried adding a stuttering guitar figure, and presto! Change-o! We at least had something that sounded radio-worthy, which is funny considering the staccato stuff was the only change. Shows you how thin the premise is a good song vs a great one. Etc, etc. Score: 3-0.

Quote of the day: “I’m intent on making some downside, magical shit.” Lastly, ‘PRETTY BLUE,’ our perusal leaving Howard with a pained look on his boyish face.

“Don’t like it?” I said.

“I do, but, hmm.”

Score: 3-1.

Not bad..definitely not the worst thing to come out of Billy Corgan.

It might be good for radio but that doesn't say much..music on the radio tends to suck these days.

Isn't that Sierra Swan?

Anyway, very good song, the last part is a little repetitive tho. It would make a very good as one of the final tracks of Day For Night.

I actually like this one, but not as much as World's Fair! I would not be upset at all to hear an album or two of that ilk.

I liked it...the back-up vocals seemed out of place but I imagine it's hard to sing with Billy because his voice is so weird and constantly goes between on and off key.

I like it, but part of me wonders if I like it because it's the first new song I've heard since 2008 where Billy was backed by a competent drummer. Knowing Billy it will either never get released or be neutered in the studio though.

2009

But yeah, it's refreshing to hear the drums come in and not cringe

That was Matt Walker on drums, right? I wish Billy would just have him play drums on the next album. It would be the only thing outside Jimmy returning that would make me excited at the prospect of a new album.

The solo is machina blew away. The last chord progression is porcelina and also cinnamon girl. Verses is a slowed down cinnamon girl/Cortez
Though still a nice closer.
I like it.

Billy, Matt Walker, MADM and Jeff would make for a pretty sweet live lineup.

This is an insane group. Any good music gets bashed, yet this song is way below average and gets mostly rave reviews.

Then the next step, Billy tricks you and puts the song on the album, and Netphoria response "Oh he sure did fuck that up in the studio, the live version was GREAT!!"

Mostly the music after the original lineup is what I see get bashed..because that's when it started to suck so the bashing is fair.

This board is pretty fucked, but not in the way that's being insinuated. That's also why I wanted to be part of it.

The first time I tried listening to it I stopped it early on, wasn't impressed.
Have just listened to it again and still not feeling it. It's weak, lyrically and the guitar sounds like something from GnR.
I could see it being an attempt at a commercial song, background music for a movie or TV show or something. It doesn't have much substance IMO.
