On a more serious note, Jims didn't help things much anyway, so this really doesn't do much for the music. It's still going to be bad.

On a positive side, I hope davins eating his fat ass to death over this.

also maybe that's why they are opening the archives and trying to cash some more money under the name Smashing Pumpkins. it all makes sense joining those pieces together

i don't think billy cares anymore. really, i don't think he cares. the VISA commercial should confirm this. i mean, he still likes making music, yes, but considering that he doesn't even want to make albums anymore, i have a hunch that he is not going to take it as seriously. he is likely content with being an elder alt. rock statesman who has seen much success, and not particularly concerned with what you think about him now because he's already made his dent.

Jimmy most certainly did help the music.

Not true at all. His drumming made a lot of the new sp songs good.

Good for Jimmy - he realizes Billy sucks at music now and didn't let his loyalty get in the way of his brain. Jimmy can easily have a much better musical career going forward than Corgan.

Oh and lololololol

This is where I disagree. Chamberlin isn't going to have a better career outside of Smashing Pumpkins, no way. He's basically, like, half of the band. And I even felt that way when James and Darcy were in it. He's just that damn important

This is actually really, really good news. Without Jimmy, Billy won't be able to make the rock-oriented shit that has been the plague of SP2, he'll have to settle for interesting melodies and put more creativity into his work, we could actually get some good music out of this on his side. More importantly though, JCC is pretty cool, and at least they sound interesting and different from SP. Definitely higher expectations from Jimmy than Billy.

screw april fools', this is christmas.

it's probably the best thing for jimmy, the best thing for billy, the best thing for "the smashing pumpkins", etc. :

either billy carries on and loses every last shred of respect, or billy finally quits beating a dead horse. both guys have good music left in them, if they just put down the SP and step away slowly

I actually really enjoyed TFE -- I know that is not a very popular opinion -- I wish Billy would just go back in that direction and go solo

edit: I liked the CD but the tour seemed a bit ridiculous

wow, my mouth has been hanging open for the last ten minutes or so.

uhm, i don't have much else to contribute other than corgan might as well just give it up. i doubt very much that it was an amicable split. but even after everything that's happened in the last few months, i really never would have expected this.

Yah, I'm out. Never going to pay for Smashing Pumpkins again, never see 'em live again. I was fine with D'Arcy and James going with Jimmy behind the skins, Adore worked because the majority of the original members were still there. But calling this "The Smashing Pumpkins"? Yeah, uh, no.

Oddly, I feel somewhat relieved. Unless it's paying for something like the Metro show or any older materiel, Corgan ain't getting my cash anymore. More $ for me!

if by SP you mean pre 2000, sure. but nothing they've done lately soundly beats TFE or Zwan or JCC.

This is the sad part. He's indicated quite clearly that he's sticking with the SP moniker and turning the name into a business model via singles-only now releases. This means more middle of the road rock like G.L.O.W and FOL. The SP name is a dead end but he keeps stepping on the gas.

On March 20, 2009 it was announced that Jimmy Chamberlain has once again left the Smashing Pumpkins due to his recent diagnosis as being HIV positive. Billy Corgan will continue to record and perform under the Smashing Pumpkins name.-wikipedia

what makes this so much worse is how much over the last year or so, they've really tried to re-build the smashing pumpkins brand again.

oh wells

Early Zwan and Djali Zwan was great. However even Zeitgeist as a studio album is superior to MSOTS. MSOTS is easily the worst disc Billy has ever released.

TFE is a solid effort, but better than what SP has been doing altogether from 2007-now? I'm not so sure about that.

JCC is the only thing that can seriously rival SP, but as I said before, Jimmy won't get the credit he deserves going solo. It's a real shame.

I liked TFE too but the tour sucked. That's the problem. Billy needs Jimmy on stage. They kind of deifne each other as musicians, it's like there's a certain aura between the two of them when they play.

If they're fighting that's a complete shock. I'm sure they've had their disagreements and whatnot, but I always pictured the two of them as constantly backing each other.

Billy firing Jimmy through a fax from a lawyer must have been sticking in his craw for over a decade.
