Aside from the fact that all the other songs (possibly not AoI) are dire and dark as hell and suddenly WEL is all sunshine and lollipops, you have two key lines:

"Could you believe in Heaven if Heaven was all you had?" (Seems like he believes he's in Heaven now, so why question it?)

"Away with anything that holds you sane" (Like I dunno dude, those things seem worth keeping unless you're surrendering to a higher power who may or may not have your best interests at heart)

If I ever catch Billy's question and answer period Imma ask him about this, as well as I can with the like 40 characters you get
he's talking to his mama. could she believe in heaven if it was that or nothingness/lack of existence, since those are her choices now that she's DEAD?

the away with everything/anything lines is just like, ok yer dead all of this doesn't matter anymore

geez you guys suck at lyric interpretation

No, because you would probably have some transitional songs between those "dire and dark" songs and then With Every Light, which would probably represent Glass's thought process from hitting absolute bottom to acceptance that God was with him all along. We're talking songs like "Home" or "Slow Dawn" or "This Time", which really isn't presented on Machina as we know it at all.

I don't 100% understand your answer, but I got the "no" part and I am aware that you have invested significantly more time than I have in understanding the story, so I'll defer to you

I love Bill's vocals on Wound, tbh

It's definitely 90s Corgan "to the max" but if you ain't into that then why are you here

I'm sorry, but Corgan's voice on classics like Mayonaise and Hummer didn't make me want to gouge out my eardrums with an icepick the way that his vocals on Wound do, so I would absolutely disagree with you there.

If you don't like Wound, I don't know what you would see in Machina. Most of the album is significantly more muddled, meandering, and dull. Wound, AoI, and This Time were the only tracks that make me occasionally pick up the album rather than just hear the singles elsewhere.

LOL, I thought I made it clear that I don't like Machina other than TEG, SIYL, AOI and This Time (though This Time is kinda meh and I can't unhear the Natalie Imbruglia thing now that someone mentioned it).

that's why i said "to the max"

on most of Machina it's like he took the majority of characteristics people associated with him & his singing and turned 'em up to 11, so to speak

Wound is beautiful

Whoa, what? I didn't know about this. Billy wrote a Natalie Imbruglia song?

The only song of hers I ever liked was Wishing I Was There, but I fucking LOVE that song.

Bro, I wish Billmaster flash would still sing like he did on that song

Would certainly beat the "lovah lovah" business he's been peddlin' in recent years

His vocal demo was in the leaked tracks a few years back.

Ah hell, ol' Shadaloo's always just a-waitin in the shadows eh!

Anyway here's his original version, pretty interesting listen before or after Nat's

I'm basically going to be refreshing Bollz' Instagram and Netphoria several times a day until the release happens. I have an unhealthy obsession with Machina and have, on-and-off, ever since way way back when the notion of "what it would sound like finished" first crossed my brain in 2001 or so.

I recently gave the Stigmata soundtrack a listen because I wanted to see what the other Corgan/Garson pieces were like. Having trouble getting through it all

And yeah, there's something nice and lush about Bill's take. It's way sparser, but the desperation really rings through. Doesn't sound like a demo at all, really.

on the subject of Natalie, this song came on the other day on a Pandora station I was listening to & kinda caught me by surprise. Way more "noir-ish" than the other stuff (aside from Identify, I guess) I'd heard from her

There’s something about the intensity with which Billy, under the guise of Glass, feels emboldened to confront his inner demons of insecurity and grandiosity that I find truly compelling. It’s not an album I can listen to a lot but when I do I really take something from it.

This video does a great job of breaking it down:

As a side note, I think both Adore and Machina suffer from the same problem of feeling strangled by Billy’s obsessive-compulsive production tendencies. There was something about the first three studio albums that always felt “good” despite his perfectionism. But starting with Adore, everything he has done has felt “processed within an inch of its life” to quote AllMusic’s Machina review...

Somewhere buried in there under the rock opera is more or less one of the most personal albums he ever wrote and I think that's why I revisit it as often as I do.

Adore feels just as airy & organic-sounding as the early stuff, imo. just because there's electronic elements going on doesn't make it overly processed.
