I retract that statement. They didn't use gibsons all the time in that tour, but how the hell did they get that guitar tone?

They went from the warm fuzziness of the Big Muff to the normal stereotypical distortion pedal.

At least they didn't tune down all the way to Drop C or whatever tuning they did for Machina.

I always figured it was more of the technical errors that you see Billy screaming about earlier in the documentary. I remember that particular run of shows had a good number of technical problems and malfunctions.

I do not think it's rights issues. They used the "Eruption" solo in the Oceania DVD. I would not guess Van Halen absolutely refused to let Smashing Pumpkins get a sync license in 2008, and then change their minds for a 203 release.
