oh my god this is worse than i possibly could have imagined.

whoever said the thing about a high school kid trying to be David Lynch was spot on.

I'm all for surrealist, weird arty shit. But the video in and of itself is missing some key ingredient (it's just not captivating) and it becomes pure cringe with the context of the faux-reunion and the generic, shitty music that doesn't fit the mood, pacing, or content of the video whatsoever.

What I don't get is how positive the youtube comments are and how negative they are here.

It's almost like everyone here is old school fans that are expecting something they are not getting. Everyone there are new teenage fans that like the new stuff and don't know the old stuff.

I've tried to keep an open mind about the new material.

I really, really have.

But that video is an embarrassment.

I gave up after the first 30 seconds.

Looks like they filmed it at a Jugalo convention.

Is this the same band that gave us the videos for "Tonight, Tonight" and "Thirty Three"???
No. Clearly, it is NOT the same band.

Live Nation probably pays hundreds of these fake YouTube accounts to spread "positive" feedback. It's basic fake-hype marketing for when you're promoting something irrelevant.

I mean yes, those comments would obviously be real if the song dropped was of "Tonight, Tonight" or "Zero", or "Cherub Rock" quality.

Not really. They look like real profiles. Unless they paid real people to make positive comments.

What about sophisticated bots? You create 1 account that "looks" real by letting it subscribe or some shit to random channels, and then its registered for future use in like a system. Can't imagine it'd take long to get a couple of hundred of those going.

Honestly, it's just different people's tastes. I have talked to people at shows that liked Teargarden. It's usually the younger generation that likes the new stuff IMO.

Do you really think bill has gained new fans with crappy albums like zeitscheiss, oceania, teargarden or monuments??? I bet he has lost more fans or people who liked the older stuff than newer/ younger listeners Die hard fans seem to be here- and they mostly dislike sp 2.0

Wow. When I saw the teaser image I thought there'd be an Everlasting Gaze or Ava Adore vibe, with some cool imagery and quick cuts / edits. But it's nothing like that. It might even have been saved if Billy had been miming the words but... It's just weird. It's too slow moving for the music.

If I was a teenager and I’d never heard SP and I heard Solara I would never seek out anything else they ever made

Q Magazine 2000 "The Rudest Man In Rock":
"“Here I am again,” he says, “thrust back into the world of materialism. And I’m not keen on it.” He exhausted it. Truth means nothing to me any more. I will no longer be indulging in it.” He arrives in the studio, on time, clad in a black roll-neck fleece top, an ankle-length black skirt, and black hobnailed boots. Give him a scythe, and he’d look just like the Grim Reaper.

"Nice skirt,” says Q, by way of friendly introduction.

“It’s not a skirt,” he replies gruffly, pulling back the long flap to reveal two trousered legs. “It’s a Gaultier.”

Of course it is."

That's pretty much what they said about Ryan Gosling trying to be Nicolas Winding Refn, but Lost River was still beautiful and surreal, despite being scrappy and derivative. This is pure cheese, and actually makes me feel embarrassed for Billy. Cringe after cringe.

Okay, that was hilarious. It doesn't suit Solara at all, but I'm suitably entertained.
