Official releases Hall of Shame:

Bye June
Apathy's Last Kiss
Blank
Tonite Reprise
Because You Are
The covers
Pastichio Medley (if you wanna count it as a song)

Not as long a list as I'd anticipated. Every other song I think is at least OK - i.e. I don't want to skip it if it comes on. Even songs that can grate a little - like Imploding Voice, HMM, Daphne Descends, are good songs but just over-extended.

Some odd choices on here. What kind of black-hearted villain, nay! scoundrel can find no love for Beautiful, Soot and Stars, Annie-dog, Appels + Oranjes, Vanity, Home, AoI, Methuselah, Shame, Pug, Tale of Dusty + Pistol Pete, To Forgive, This Time, White Spyder, Untitled, Love, Cherry?

Have you no sense of decency sir at long last?

Can’t believe Apathy’s Last Kiss has made the list multiple times. Great song, tbh it could’ve fit on SD in place of Spaceboy just fine.

The remixed version of Apathy's Last Kiss is where it's at. The OG mix is way too goofy.

Oh come on. No love for Clones? I fucking love that one.

I do find Youíre All Iíve got Tonight a tad disappointing. Itís okay but itís so minimalist it just bugs me. Always thought Billy could have done something more interesting with that one.

I also donít care for their cover of Dancing in the Moonlight. The original is one of my favorite songs, and the SP version just sounds all dreary and depressing.

Some of these songs are ones where I dislike on the albums but love the live version of them but here's mine:

Real Love - hate it with a passion, don't give a fuck what anyone else says
Rhinoceros - not a bad song, just not one I'm in the mood to listen to very often
Take Me Down - not one of James' best
Beautiful - one I love live but there's something about the album version...
Annie Dog - hate the croaky singing, ruins a good song.
Shame - find it tedious
Heavy Metal Machine - don't really need to explain this one...
The Imploding Voice - ruined a good live song
GATGC - I honestly don't think I've ever made it through this song
Crying Tree Of Mercury - meh
If There Is A God - there was an good version of this done as a demo but the Machina II versions are cack.

For a long long time I hated both The Last Song and We Only Come Out At Night but slowly came around to enjoying both of them.

Real Love however is still shite.

I love SP's version and the original. Thin Lizzy was such a great band.

- Pug
- Behold the Nightmare
- Patichio Medley (not even a song, but as a track, just, no)
- Heavy Metal Machine
- The Imploding Voice
- Fucking Mercury Tree
- If there is a God
- Le Deux Machina
- Because You Are
- Sparrow
- Winterlong
I can get behind this list, except Suffer, Nightmare, and ITIAG. Nightmare is one of my fave SP tracks.

Also, Cupid is fine but I 100% stan for the shoegaze version they played on the '08 tour. I would die for a studio version of that. I would pay real money for it.

I will go to bat for the covers of Dreaming and Stay, though

It's just a really perplexing one to me, like if someone's list were Jellybelly, Soma, and Hummer

It may not have seemed like it, but the last 18 years have demonstrated that yes, it most surely was.

I mentioned this in another thread recently, but it's funny how if you rewind about 16 years, Machina was the worst album and a lot of people really vocally despised it. But context changes things haha

So you like the Madame ZuZu's version of Real Love but not the recorded song

Yeah I know that's not what you meant but I felt I needed to mock your shitty list.

Yup. Christ knows what they'll be putting out in 10 years time that'll have me looking back fondly on the travesty that was Teargarden. There's a few lost cases out there bigging up Zeitgeist however. I feel bad for them.

Adore was the first album that I couldn't listen to all the way through without a couple of questionable moments, there was more with Machina. Beforehand their album output had been pretty much flawless. With Adore it was essentially a few songs could've been trimmed by like 30-45s. Machina had that and also some instances where they made some bad choices on individual songs. However, as you allude to, compared to everything post-2000 SP v1.0 had an amazing hit rate.

IMO Rhicoceros is one of peak early SP songs. Dreamy, longing, wistful like a cloudy Tuesday in November. Then, boom, it kicks you right in the nuts.

I like Glass and the Ghost Children as a 4-minute song before the Billy therapy session kicks in.

The first part of GatGC is a Machina high-point, for me. The second part is just OK. The spoken section I have no idea why it's even in there tbh.
