the eagles are the kind of band i can listen to any time and enjoy but i'll never get anything really meaningful out of. some good songs. hell freezes over was one of my first albums. my dad used to play them on the piano a lot when i was a kid. the eagles and carly simon.

desperado is an amazing song, too.

also the end of the innocence is a great song, the kind of song i always used to wish i could write. i connect with some kind of longing that i never had innocence to lose but in some different way still have it. i dont know. its a good song.

I dont think one can truly be objective about any band their parents listened to when they were kids though. Well at least if they love their parents and had a good childhood (maybe you didnt, i dont know). It's like for some reason i can't hate any song Madonna made in the 80's. And by I can't hate i mean i like all her 80's songs. But i'm aware it's likely just nostalgia.

I still think it's bs to claim any song is objectively good.

Not really but we did sort of bond over music. They were very good about that stuff. Music lessons etc, let me listen to SP and go to concerts when I was 11 and stuff. That is one thing they did right fo sure.

Do you think some people are objectively pretty? I think our brains know what is 'good' from hard wiring via genetics and survival of the fittest programming (for being attracted to people in particular), but then there are modifiers such as parental influence and personal tastes and triggers to other things etc.

No one is objectively pretty no. There are certain physical features that determine a basic let's say agreed upon standard of beauty but no one can agree 100% on who is or isn't good looking. A majority can agree maybe, but not everyone.

ok lets call it basic standard of beauty then instead of 'objectively pretty'

certain melodies are just going to sound good full stop

it may not be as clear cut as 'beauty' but it is there.

i have no evidence to give you but it seems like it is so?

i dont know what my dads fav band is which is strange now that i think about it

i think he legit likes the pumpkins and he really liked ben folds (he plays piano). the only music he really introduced me to is billy joel, elton john, eagles, mamas and the papas and attempted carly simon but i never got into her. thats all i remember anyway.

i used to learn how to sing all of these songs to accompany him while he played piano but i'd never heard the actual original songs. not sure why it was like that.

Hotel California is has an "objectively" good melody, but that's kind of it and it's boring

You go write a song half as good as Hotel California, Take It Easy, Take It To the Limit, or Desperado or any of that old shit. Fucking Eagles shit all over you.

Alright man, take care.

The drum solo at the end of the song Aja is fantastic. I don't usually enjoy music for the technical proficiency of the musician playing it, but I can't help but be in awe when I hear it.
