Electra 2000 is on the quality level on Gish easily.

This is a tricky one. It's gotta be someone big enough that people have actually heard of them, but small enough that people won't leave before the Pumpkins come on set.

Total crap: 1st opener: beware of darkness. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=npytl5wT3pI

2nd opener: bush
Pumpkins performance was really good. Billy saying 2 times: thank you, but spitting a 15 times on the stage floor

Beware of Darkness isn't a good band. Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel on the SD tour were the two best openers SP ever had. Filter and Garbage on the MCIS tour were good too.

The return of Filter as supporting band, with a special guest.

The recent talk of D’arcy and opening acts had me thinking about her last tour,The Arising!, and how the opener on that tour was fucking Queens of The Stone Age. I remember the response online at the time was uniformly that they were horrible and nobody liked them. Now they’re playing Red Rocks and the LA Forum with setlists that are 75% new material, and everyone seems to love it. The Pumpkins had to do a Hail Mary last ditch PR effort to get back into venues like that.

Which brings me to my next point: has anyone in this thread ever seriously considered that we’re all dead and this is purgatory?

I don't know where else to go with my ultra obscure SP references. So thank you. lol. I saw the TFE tour in Toronto in 2005: Doris Henson and The Crimea were the openers

I remember everyone thought QOTSA sucked on the Arising tour too. Funny how that turned out.

I guess so? Both of them are good debut albums, sure.

I don't know how anyone can stand any sort of 2nd or 3rd wave alternative/shoe gaze music. it's all particularly awful. The only type of decent opener would be something very different.

billy should get a clown/magician to be the opening act.

This is totally from left field but Mazzy Star would be a lovely opener

There are bands around these days that are straight-up rip offs of classic bands. Like, they're not even updating their influences -they're going full blown Owl City/Postal Service- and their idiot fans are like "this is so cool". It bugs me!! They aren't cool. They're big fat phonies!

Last time I saw the (in 2008?) opener was Queens of the Stone Age.

This Live Nation tour artist still seems to be available, for more than just supporting:
