Default Grohl is back with Q.O.T.S.A.

I would prefer another Them Crooked Vultures album but this will do. The lineup this time around with Grohl is different. Nick and Mark are no longer in the band so I wonder how different their sound will be.

In November 2012 Josh Homme told BBC's Zane Lowe that Joey Castillo had left the band, and drums on the new album would be performed by Dave Grohl, who performed on Songs for the Deaf[49]. He also confirmed that the album would be released prior to their performance at the Download Festival in June.

I hope Mark Lanegan's back in the fold. One hell of a combination with Dave on drums.

Them Crooked Vultures was a mountain of tepid dad-rock merconium.

How can you not like Interlude with Ludes, Warsaw, New Fang, Reptiles or Dead End Friends? Scumbag Blues, Caligulove, No One Loves Me and Bandoliers do kind of veer close to Dad Rock. Caligulove sounds like Steppenwolf and Black Sabbath but in a good way. Interlude with Ludes is so far out of the realm of what I'm used to hearing by Josh. It's amazing.

Is it me or does QOTSA drift into over-staccato land with Grohl?

Trolling? Come on, man. Early Queens is great. Even brilliant at times. I actually think Self Titled and Lullabies are their best works. Songs for the Deaf and Rated R are honestly kind of patchy.

The vocal comparisons that Josh gets with Jack Bruce are very fair. He's a great singer on top of being a guitar prodigy.

Grohl back with QOTSA? Hmmmm....I think they really only ever nailed it live once, at Atlanta 2002/05/27, which was the opening show of the tour they did together. The soundboard for that show is sooooo much better than the Amsterdam show they did a few weeks later. By then Grohl wasn't nearly as into it. Same goes for the festivals where all the videos come from.

Now it says on Wikipedia that Trent Reznor and Nick Olivieri are contributing to the album.

I recently stumbled into these post-Kyuss/pre-Queens "Plastic Turks" demos and this one sounds awesome as well.
