This song is better than most of the songs on Machina. It's definitely a strong start to MII, and one of several of my favourite MII songs.

Amazing song and God I hope they do it justice on the reissue. I'd venture to say that when the guitar solo begins is one of the most powerful moments of any Pumpkins song. But I could be intoxicated a bit.

I like the synthy sounds. They sound like lil' bits of sunlight over the horizon.

Like dawn.

I agree. It's a really great song. The guitar sound is so sublime, especially in combination with the synth

Interesting.

To me it's more like when you walk at early dawn after being up all night instead of getting up at early dawn, if that makes any sense.

The song still gives me goosebumps. The version of the song I had on MP3, so long ago, was from one of the first vinyl rips that had a very bad skip right in the solo. I listened to it so many times that now I expect the skip when I listen to the cleaner copies that are in circulation.

On that note, Machina II was the first album I ever burned to CD.

I remember discovering that mii existed then the excitement of downloading the songs then listening first to slow dawn...

Excellent tune. I agree with the "up all night/going for a walk" feelings. Had this in my headphones for many groggy half drunken 5 AM walks across campus

Does anyone have the rip where the intro to Here's to the Atom Bomb has a really bad skip? It was the first version of Machina II I downloaded from Napster, and it's nostalgic as hell. I wish I still had it.

Probably the best Machina song. Not really sure why, but the atmosphere of the song is crazy great. Machina II has this really cool late night, chilling out, floating kind of vibe. In My Body, for example.

Yes

I used to work a night shift job and I would listened to pumpkins all night and get off at 7 am.

Slow Dawn captured that feel.

vanity was supposedly soundchecked at one of the euro 2000 shows (either toulouse or stockholm), can't remember which

if there is a god has been played a bunch of times obviously

and le deux machina pops up during live versions of glass and the ghost children from september to november 2000, as well as one standalone performance on 2/19/00

That pretty much nails it. Lyrics give imagery of someone watching the early rush of commuters running to day jobs, and being detached from the whole 9-5 experience. Wouldn't be surprised if that was exactly what happened to prompt Bill writing the song.

In my Body was great in 2007. I hope the reissue version brings that high guitar line out somehow, thought it really added an extra punch to the song.

the guitars on slow dawn (and the rest of machina II) are what make this song so good. billy's got a great shoegazey/metal sound to songs like speed kills and saturnine. and the solos are fantastic. god i love this album.
