Wow we just went from 1 death from 1 confirmed case in my county to 25 confirmed cases. Glad they’re catching up with the backlog of test kits

Brazil has a worse start than spain and italy going by early infection rates.
we went from low 100s to over 900 confirmed cases just this week.

Not sure if this was posted here already, but here it goes

We’re not going back to normal

To stop coronavirus we will need to radically change almost everything we do: how we work, exercise, socialize, shop, manage our health, educate our kids, take care of family members.

We all want things to go back to normal quickly. But what most of us have probably not yet realized—yet will soon—is that things won’t go back to normal after a few weeks, or even a few months. Some things never will.

(...)

Under this model, the researchers conclude, social distancing and school closures would need to be in force some two-thirds of the time—roughly two months on and one month off—until a vaccine is available, which will take at least 18 months (if it works at all).

(...)

In all scenarios without widespread social distancing, the number of Covid cases overwhelms the healthcare system.

(...)

There would be temperature scanners everywhere, and your workplace might demand you wear a monitor that tracks your temperature or other vital signs. Where nightclubs ask for proof of age, in future they might ask for proof of immunity—an identity card or some kind of digital verification via your phone, showing you’ve already recovered from or been vaccinated against the latest virus strains.

(...)

As usual, however, the true cost will be borne by the poorest and weakest. People with less access to health care, or who live in more disease-prone areas, will now also be more frequently shut out of places and opportunities open to everyone else.

I keep seeing these articles, people aren't taking into consideration the repercussions of shutting down for 18 months. The death toll and economic toll would be higher. We will learn to live with it and the virus will mutate at some point. These panic-written articles insist that things will not change from now for 18 months.

When half the world (or more) is homeless, what's the point in living?

Even in that article, with it's fear baiting lede writes later..."And the shut-in lifestyle just isn’t sustainable for such long periods."

ya i told my therapist via video chat today this isn't so bad (as bad as it is). didn't people always want more time to do whatever, anyway? and now we have it. she said re-framing it that way is the best thing i can do for myself right now because we have no idea how long this will actually last.

a lot of that other stuff sounds awful, though.

No, Italy just did nothing. Nothing until their ICUs were already at max capacity

Italy is a country....a piece of land. the land itself can't do anything so it makes sense it did nothing

U.S gov't politicians are actively lying to help themselves before divulging any truths, but you wanna focus on what you read about Italy--a place you've never been- in BusinessInsider and some graph you cant find

I'm about to have to brave the grocery store. I'm expecting all the paper goods and baby needs to be gone, as well. Hope not.

I want to wear gloves and a mask but don't know if that's really going to help or make it worse? I've had a couple of boxes of masks since my kid was born over 2.5 years ago because I hate flu season, so I didn't go out and hoard them or anything.

tim's bro couldn't find any tp this morning and he went to several stores. he ended up buying a bidet attachment at home depot. tim offered to buy some tp from the liquor store across the street and ship it to him because we saw some rolls there yesterday. they were all gone today.

luckily tim and i usually buy bulk paper products because we don't have a vehicle to make trips a lot. we have about 12 rolls of tp--i'm sure i'll run into more being sold before it's all out.

if all else fails, newspaper works like a charm. you just need to crinkle it up a lot to soften the paper and avoid paper-cuts on your butthole.

There's lots of options out there. For examples:

Personally I just poop in the shower. It's like killing a bird with two stones.

I would wear a mask for sure, but that's just me. I'd consider gloves as well. I just took a bunch of wipes with me and kept cleaning my hands

If you have the PPE, I'd wear it. Most people don't. I have gloves but that's it.

Are we talking a mask to prevent others from getting infected if you are sick? Cause I thought that was the only thing a mask is effective for

If it can stay airborne for 3 hours then I don't see how a mask wouldn't provide at least some protection. I didn't wear it though, cuz upon recounting I only have 5 left and there definitely aren't any left on the shelves so I guess I am going to save them for potentially more crowded or gross areas. I did wear gloves and tried to avoid as many people as possible. I also bagged my own groceries since that's policy right now (kinda dumb since the cashier still touches my stuff to scan it).

They were out of masks, rubbing alcohol, sanitizer, hand soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, and had limited quantities of diapers and wipes. Not out of any food, at least nothing I could see.

There's talk of a full lock down here next week, and case numbers and deaths keep rising.

yes, and needed for health workers. people wearing masks while every country on the globe is begging them to stop because medics don't have enough are making me mad.
