Default how many times have you been to church

Or other places of worship?

I don't know how many times I've been to church. Ballpark 800 times.

I've been to a Krsna temple maybe 10 times.

Buddhist temple once.

Sikh temple once.

Mosque twice.

Jewish temple maybe 12 times.

I'll go to some Chinese ancestral/folk religion temples here.

I think that's it.

My dad runs the sound at our local church. The most popular one in town. Grew up there, but always behind the sound board. The bit I'm working on is that preachers are just like rock singers -> another asshole with a microphone.

I went to catholic school from k-2nd and we had to go to mass. I was baptized and also had my communion. I would fall asleep in church. I have only been to one Catholic Church and one Greek Orthodox

Used to average once a year for a Christmas service. Now far less often than that.

Every Sunday and Wednesday from about 8 y/o to 18 y/o, so, a butt-ton

Still waiting for the kingdom of God to get built so I can go live there during the apocalypse like they said we were gonna

Seriously, got hurt by church at a very young age. Broken promises of a New Jerusalem, graduating from the high school of Zion. Didn't happen. It was hard to get over.

So I don't go to church anymore

I don't know a bunch of times?

I used to be part of a church youth group as a teen. Even read bible passages in front of people.

Le cringe.

i went to catholic school from 3rd-6th grade and went to mass every wednesday and friday with my class and then i had to go with my family on sunday. before that i had been "culturally catholic", but it wasn't a huge presence in my life. my parents divorced in the 2nd grade and for whatever reason my mom thought catholic school would be good for me (or perhaps she did it to piss my father off cause he was staunchly atheist; he even tried to take me off the field of my soccer game cause he def didn't want me involved in team sports, especially for a catholic school).

i liked mass, though. my childhood could be tumultuous at times and i found a lot of solace in just physically being in a church. living alone as an adult, i would sometimes go and just sit in the back and think about everything and nothing at all. but i haven't been in close to ten years.

and one time geo and i had stayed up all night and in the morning wandered into a church. i forget anything about it except that they ended by saying namaste. now i see that word on everything from t-shirts to coffee cups.

my grandma used to insist on taking me to christmas and easter mass at the Presbyterian church in our neighborhood when i was a kid.

aside from that i have been to regular sunday mass exactly twice, and both were when i slept over at a friend's house on a saturday night. that was enough to realize church is not for me.

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church –
I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –

Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice –
I, just wear my Wings –
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton – sings.

God preaches, a noted Clergyman –
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last –
I’m going, all along.

My parents, who are not at all religious, made me go to church, youth group, and baptist school for four years. They never went to church. Just made me go by myself

that's kind of funny. were they just trying to appease your grandparents? (i know a lot of grandparents get annoyed when their grandchildren aren't regular churchgoers)

No my grandparents were neither religious nor ever a part of my life. It's a strange thing that I don't know if I'll ever fully understand. They say it's because they thought I would get a better education but I get the impression that that's a lie. I have basically no memories of childhood. My memories start the same year I started Baptist school. I don't remember much from that period and virtually nothing before it. It's a mystery!

been to a place of worship or been to a service of some sort at a place of worship?

the first memory I have of being in a religious building was when I was a cub scout, we had our monthly den meetings or whatever in a church, and it always freaked me out. I remember looking around at how dark and cold and serious everything felt and just knowing this was absolutely not my place in any way at all

I also remember seeing another troop leader berating his scouts for "misbehaving in GOD'S HOUSE" and thinking to myself this grown ass man is too stupid to know there is no god

i got really offended when tim's older sister used the word 'pooper' (quite loudly) when we went to a catholic church in panama. i don't agree with catholicism 100%, or even 75 or 50%, but i find that no one should disrespect a place once they choose to enter. this includes places of worship and people's homes.

all i could do was walk away and go sit by myself in a pew.

and one is a cousin of mine. he wasn't really a friend.

the non-cousin friend was going through some real shit at the time. his parents were going through a bitter divorce i think he was looking for friends to invite over to sleepovers so the parents wouldn't fight. they were also doing that horrible manipulative thing that divorced parents do where they try to win their kids' love by buy them stuff. so he had every toy you could want and they would let him watch r-rated movies (we were 12). he even had a copy of Jerry Springer's Too Hot For TV that his mom bought him.

I read Jerry Seinfeld at first and was confused, cause I didn't know he had stuff too hot for tv. Jerry Springer was "trash" and I wasn't allowed to watch it, but I wanted to because my big bro always talked about it even though he was banned from watching it, too.
