Does anybody have any idea the income Darcy will likely receive from her SP involvement? She must do quite well I'd imagine?!

I wonder the same for Iha and Chamberlin, especially with the reissues. Can't remember reading anything about it.

pretty sure mellon collie took the original members over the top in terms of royalties. james and darcy probably can't afford to live in an NYC penthouse suite the rest of their lives like billy could but they'll continue making money long after they're dead

All of the people here saying this is Darcy are the kind of people that would easily be fooled by this sort of thing.

Not her. Prove it beyond photos of a woman that looks sort of like her if you blur your eyes.

Former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist and co-founder James Iha has sold his four-bedroom, American Foursquare-style house in Edgewater for $545,000.

An Elk Grove Village native, Iha, 45, was with the Smashing Pumpkins from its formation until the December 2000 breakup of the group, which got back together in 2005 without Iha. Since leaving the band, Iha, who now lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., has been in several other groups and has co-owned a record label and recording studio in New York. He also has done work with other artists, including producing songs and contributing guitar tracks and vocals.

Iha hadn’t lived in the Edgewater house in years. He bought it in 1994 for $260,000, and hung onto it after paying $1.05 million for a 4,750-square-foot mansion in Wilmette in 1998. After moving to New York, Iha sold the mansion in Wilmette in 2001 for $1.16 million but continued to hold onto the house in Edgewater.

Built in 1910, the three-story Edgewater house has 1-1/2 baths, hardwood floors, a fireplace and a full basement. Iha first listed the house in late June for $625,000. He closed on the sale on July 29.

“Like a lot of sellers, he saw that the market had improved,” said listing agent John Wyman of @properties, who declined to comment further.

Iha most recently has been renting in Brooklyn. In October 2012, he sold his longtime co-op apartment in Manhattan’s East Village to author Kathryn Stockett for $1.25 million. He had purchased the one-bedroom unit in 2000 for an undisclosed price.

D'arcy and Jimmy don't have writing credits do they? Don't think there's still a lot of money to be made out of SP for them at this point.

They might earn money from the actual SP's old records sells as from Spotify. No?

They earn a cut of revenue as artists in the band, but with piracy becoming more and more rampant (and sources like Spotify and Pandora giving out shit payments) chances are there is not a whole ton of money rolling in for D'arcy and James. James probably gets slightly more because of his co-writing credits on three fairly "big" Smashing Pumpkins songs ("Soma" "Mayonaise" and "I Am One") as well as his various sole songwriting credits throughout the band (more money comes from songwriting royalties than artist royalties). For what it's worth, D'arcy co-wrote "Daughter" with Billy and has a co-writing credit on "Pastichio Medley" and "Special Winner Song" (both of which are credited to the whole band).

I am willing to bet James keeps the studio open in order to have some revenue coming in, and I'm sure he gets a good but of money from being in A Perfect Circle.

What does Jimmy get?

He obviously wrote the drums for every song (besides the I Am One intro), but is he credited for that?

Drums aren't part of song copyrights. Lyrics and melody.

So how does this work, is there something like a certain percentage they have to get from the reissues, or is it up to Corgan how much he wants to give them?

This means that if you’re in a band — perhaps you’re the bass player — but you don’t write the songs, you likely will earn far less than the person (or people) in the band who did write the song.

For instance, every time the song is played (streamed) online, the writer gets paid; any time the song is used in a movie or a TV show, the writer gets paid, any time the song is sold as a download, CD, or vinyl, the songwriter gets paid.

Those members of the band who do not write the songs tend to get paid only a portion of money that is generated from live shows, and (if they’re signed to the label) revenue from the sale of the record or download.

Remember, labels pay two royalties: 1. A mechanical royalty that is paid directly to the songwriter when the label’s record that contains the song is reproduced and distributed. 2. An “artist” royalty that is paid to the person/people who is/are signed to the label — this is typically a percentage of either the list price of the record or the net profits (if any) the label makes from selling the record).

So, if you’re the songwriter in a band that is signed to the label, you are eligible to receive mechanical royalties and artist royalties; additionally, if the songs you wrote are used (as above) in movies/played on radio/etc., you get paid. If, however, you’re in the band, and are signed to the label, but don’t write any of the songs, if you receive any royalty at all, it will be a percentage of the “artist” royalty — you will get nothing in terms of mechanicals or any other revenue generated from synchs, public performance, etc.

So neither D'arcy nor Chamberlin is making anything from the reissues unless they are still signed to EMI? Or did I read that wrong?

No, I believe they still get a cut from the reissues, because they're treated basically the same as the original albums because they came from the same original recordings.

Edit: But they wouldn't be getting anything from something like "Today" being used in a commercial or whatever.

Billy would love to jack off slowly in the mouth of James.

For re-issues, James, D'arcy, and Jimmy still get an artist royalty. As someone above mentioned, even though they are no longer active members of the band, they were when the albums were recorded. If the contract has been altered at all (or a new one drawn up) the three of them might get a slightly bigger cut of artist royalties. I would assume all those lawsuits from D'arcy and James that Billy mentioned involved them trying to get a higher cut of royalties.

With the exception of the songs that James wrote or co-wrote, Billy is getting the lions share of the money. When a copy of, say, Siamese Dream, is sold, each band member gets a cut as an artist (usually very measly), but Billy gets sole mechanical royalties on the songs he wrote entirely by himself. I do not know how James and Billy split up the royalties for "Mayonaise" and "Soma," but I'd be willing to bet 50/50.

Corgan gets money whenever a song written solely by him is played on the radio (i.e. "Disarm") or a song is used somewhere else (like "Today" in that Visa ad). There have been rumors that Billy refusing to divvy up songwriting credits was a major issue in Zwan.

As for why, for instance, Jimmy does not get credited as a songwriter (even though his drums are a major part of the songs) is because songwriting is usually considered lyrics and melody. Anything else is arrangement. However, this is entirely up to the band to decide. There are instances of bands where every member gets an equal cut of songwriting no matter what. I believe REM does that.

Well Mr. William Patrick Corgan, Jr. doesn't believe in any of that commie socialist shit! No sir. He EARNED every bit of it, dammit. Unlike those other lazy and creatively deficient fucks.
