I predict that Billy will say he saw potential in mike that he planned on molding but mike into the perfect SP drummer but mike became XXXXX and billy was incapable of helping him reach his potential. If only mike listened to billy more....

I will conced that mike has a lot of talent. Maybe even tantamount to the other drummers in this thread. But I read just recently that he played on drum line in high school, which makes total sense. Dude can't swing for shit. Can't groove. He's very mechanical which is alright for bearcubbin (which sounds like a high school band) but not much else.

perhaps billy was biased in hiring him because they were both bald.
I agree, it's strange hearing these very technical jazz performances, because almost everything Kenny did with SP was very four-on-the-floor with overall very consistent dynamics.

Although at the Atlanta show (quite possibly a lot others too, I'm not familiar with Adore-era boots) the song is totally embellished and lifted up from the studio version by his alternate drum groove.

Have we forgotten about when Billy played Timpani in 2008? It was so dynamic!

Serious answer, I'd peg Kenny as best technically; the dude is an absolute beast. Like Mike Garson, however, I never really felt he gelled with the band.

In terms of really feeling like they belonged in Smashing Pumpkins, it's Matt without a doubt.

Holy shit! I had no idea Kenny was such a beast!

i mean he's played with practically everyone ever, i remember having to defend him on this board. people think he sucks.

you are very wrong if you think someone who keeps being hired by popular and rich musicians is in fact sucky

They just dogged him because he looks funny and/or was an old guy. This was the late 90s so if he wasn't from another "alternative grunge band" and didn't "look cool" that automatically meant he was garbage.

WHY COULDN'T THEY GHLSHGLS SOUNDGARDEN OR WHY COULDNT' THEY HGLDHGLSHL PEARL JAM

i think slingero's cred was dubious at that time but he made the best post in the thread, and i think by now we basically all know he's not making shit up about his life to impress anyone.

i was talking about defending kenny like 2-3 years ago even. i don't think anybody in high school paid enough attention to drummers to even care, i'm not sure i understood jims at that point either. also everyone stopped caring about SP when kenny was playing with them
