I don't listen to a lot of metal these days, but the latest Mastodon is fantastic

Think I'm stuck in a neurosis loop right now
mostly gonna alternate between them and Bongripper for the next week

feels lonely being an evangelist for a sun that never sets over through silver and blood and times of grace

Sun That Never Sets is one of their better albums but i'm hardline for Through Silver In Blood - it's just their kitchen sink album where it feels like they went all in on bleak and crushing and just naked screaming animal pain. There's none of the beauty or refinement of their other stuff. Only punishment.

Sun That Never Sets might be my favorite Neurosis joint, although Eye of Every Storm is really underrated. TSIB is obviously great. Their last one was the first where I felt like they were running out of juice.

I'm listening to pre Enemy of the Sun stuff for THE FIRST TIME
one track into souls at zero and it owns, I was missing out
I was under the impression that enemy of the sun was when they first started to really sound like neurosis but this sounds just like a much rawer version of what they became so I don't know where I was getting that info from

I think Souls at Zero sounds like proto Neurosis at first listen but if you go back to it a few times you might see it's lacking depth. I never listen to it anymore

On Enemy of the Sun, not a huge fan of most of the album, but Lost is pretty amazing.

Tonight at short notice a friend of mine invited me to see Pallbearer. I remember listening to their album and being nonplussed, but I agreed to go cause it was a generous offer on his part. Long story short that band was fucking great in the way that reminded me why i'm so happy to have heavy music in my life. 10/10 recommended even if you're not into their albums. Same thing I would say about Between The Buried And Me.
