Not rally. I was off grunge by the time they came around and I could tell they were lame. I guess most teenagers wish they could be rock stars though sure, no matter the decade. But i didnt want it to happen playing this shit.

Also personally i wasn't made aware of Magic: the Gathering until like maybe 1999. When did it get popular in the US?

Its possible it took them a while to translate it to french markets though.

They were 15 when they came around

You wanted to be one of the Hanson boys? That's okay

Every Silverchair album (there were five spread over 12 years) went to number one in Australia and they had their biggest radio hit (Straight Lines) just before they broke up. People genuinely loved that shit in there from the beginning to the end. If he gets on endless radio rotation and gets to play big festivals, it's because he's australian pop-royalty.

I don't think they had any notable hits abroad since "Freak", at least not in the states.

I was very much into Silverchair when I was 13 and used to listen to "Neon Ballroom" alot. That being said, I'm not really digging this new song. Sounds horribly generic as far as R n' B goes.

I think Daniel Johns has a touch of Billy Corganitis in that he hates the fact that everyone in the US thinks of him as a grunge has-been.

The new solo song sounds like he's trying to get the mainstream success Silverchair's legacy denied him. If his solo debut doesn't become a hit, I imagine he'll have his "I want my band back" moment.

The last Silverchair album was actually pretty awesome imho. This song is an incredibly beautiful piece of music:

i was like 20 when mmmbop came out. It was a good four years after frogstomp. At that point i wished i was Robert smith. As for at 16....i wished i was Trent reznor...

an yes i know they were teens thats why i said i suppose most teens wish they could be rockstars, and they got their wish but i still didnt wish i was them. i wouldnt have wanted it to happen playing the shit they did.

Truthfully nobody should be a succesful musicians at 15. theyll always regret the shit they made.

show me in this culture where frogstomp has been celebrated as fine accompaniment to a game of Magic.

i dont think this solo stuff is very good, but Silverchair has at least one legitimately good album (Diorama) and some other good songs like Emotion Sickness

Anyone been listening to the full album? It's called Talk and is on spotify. I like several of the songs quite a bit, there are at least 2 that I skip each time, but overall I dig it

I've not been a fan of these guys in 12+ years but I saw them live once and they opened with Emotion Sickness and it absolutely destroyed.

2003ish? that tour had the extended versions with the long slow jam at the end...I saw them in 2007 and they played the boring short version :/

kinda miss being into this band being 12 was pretty cool in retrospect

it woulda been 2005 or 6... IIRC it was their first show back after the break they took while Daniel did that awful Dissosciatives album after Diorama.

for real, i've liked both songs posted so far

still fairly hard for me to connect these with the guy who sang "Ana's Song (Open Fire)" tho, & not just cos it's a different style of music

Would anyone give the slightest of shits about this new music if it wasn't sang by some 90's grunge lead singer?

Serious question.

That it is. It almost makes Chris Cornells "Scream" seem tolerable in comparison
