i feel like 17 secs is actually a bit less monochromatic than Faith & maybe even Porna

i have a very specific association with that album & going on a long drive with my parents somewhere when I was in high school, I was chewing gum at the time and whenever i listen to that album i taste the fuckin' gum

If you haven’t yet, watch the “Trilogy” concert film.

They play Porno, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers back to back in Berlin (plus an encore)

They had filmed the same for TIB/17/Faith but it was never released. Anyone know the deal?

update: so i listened to Kiss me and Disintegration over the past week or so. I liked kiss me, but not as much as head on the door. Disintegration is great (I never realized how fucking great the bass-line in love song is)
so far:

Disintegration
Head on the door
Kiss me(3)

Will probably listen to wish next then work my way back from the head on the door.

sorry if you've already done so, but both of those are the correct answers. Easily the best Cure albums and it is not even close. If you like those then check out Seventeen Seconds and Faith. IMO the top 4. If you just can't get enough Disintegration, Bloodflowers is solid. All the other albums that we haven't mentioned just aren't as good. Except Boys Don't Cry but that's more straight-up post punk and more of a one-off than foundational despite being the first album

Huge Cure fan here. Of course it's a matter of personal taste but personally I think Pornography is overrated (lyrics not so great and melodically uninteresting) though it clearly has historic value (some say the birth of Goth).

Disintegration is clearly their best album if you ask me. Head on the Door doesn't come close in terms of production, lyrics, and just overall song quality. It's best for when you are depressed romantically.

Among their early stuff, Faith is gorgeous! Listen to it when you're in a really fucking I-wanna-kill-myself mood.

Among the more recent albums, I think Wild Mood Swings is the most underrated and my favorite. Took me years to finally decided whether I love or hate it, and I love it. It's a few songs too long, but it has so many great tracks and flawless lyrics.

okay, so Ive listened to Wish and I just went through pornography. wish is really good, and the beginning of End sounds like the beginning melon collie song but i cant put my finger on which one.

I dont really have an opinion on porno yet, as i only just listened to it.

So the ranking right now is:
Disintegration
Wish
head on the door
Kiss me(3)
(not ranking porno yet.

wish and disintegration are really close at the moment.
Ill keep working my way back to the first album but im going to give porno a few more listens first.

I have been listening to The Top lately (I really hadn't much before) and I think that it is really underrated. Think of it: it was written between Pornography and Head on the Door.

Also, I have been enjoying the Glove, which was a side project he did with Steven Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees. I think that album is probably better than the Top, but it is all pretty cool.

I don't get why the Top is so maligned. It is pretty experimental in a weird pop sense, but in many ways it is pretty similar to Head on the Door as far as the mix of styles. People seem to think that it isn't a "band" album, but that doesn't make much sense to me being that Tolhurst co-writes a lot of it.
