but on the real i've seen a steady increase in the price of vinyl ever since RSD 2008. since then we're now paying on the low-side $5 higher and in the case of double or triple-volume sets becoming more common $8-$12 more.

however today was my pay day so i ordered a very basic record player online and also dropped some cash for the boo jays' "happy halloween" glow in the dark 7". that's mainly because it was glow in the dark and because i'm fb friends with the lead singer/only member and he's hilarious and deserves to make some more money and get a band together.

the ceramic cartridges coupled with built-in speakers tend to generate a lot of internal machine noise and sound really tinny (yet dull) but plugging into even the cheapest set of speakers makes a night and day difference

a shitty mp3 can still sound good through decent speakers, while even the most premium grade vinyl will suffer greatly from tiny speakers (and not to mention a ceramic cartridge).

it's funny though - most vintage 45s from 50s and 60s were mastered so hot i think they actually sound better on these cheaper ceramic cartridge/internal speaker systems.

my initial gripe was that essentially that 20dollar vampire weekend record is going to sound like shit on an $80 jensen internal speaker. you're not getting a "vintagey sound" - you're losing fidelity on a shit pair of speakers.

you could take whatever cd boombox you had all through the 90s - you know the good one you had with the detachable speakers - and hook the speakers up to your jensen and feel like the guy in the maxell ads in the chair with his hair blown back.

edit: or even run it through the "aux" of the entire unit to take advantage of its pre-amp

it's $5 too expensive and will like shit coming out of a 3" speaker built into a plastic turntable with a ceramic cartridge

it's the equivalent of buying this for blu-ray dvd's

price of vinyl has gone up substantially ever since rsd 2008. i've talked about this in before in the thread.

as somebody that buys vinyl regularly and has been for 14 years one tends to pick up on things
