You're arguing that Andy Warhol didn't become "Andy Warhol" until he was famous...of course he was always Andy Warhol.

It was his personality and style that made his work better/more interesting even from the very beginning because his work was almost always pedestrian and even downright crappy, it was his personality and style that made his work significant enough to stand out right from the beginning.

If you're gonna argue that I'm not right on this then you're gonna have to tell me: How could someone like that become a cultural phenomenon producing the kind of work that he did?

The quality of his work didn't do it, ever. I would argue that it was always mainly his personality and style that made him significant and important, what else could it possibly be?

Thatcher is remembered as The Iron Lady only because she possessed completely negative traits such as persistent stubbornness and a determined refusal to listen to others.

Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the ivory trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own cabinet booted her out. She gave the order to blow up The Belgrano even though it was outside of the Malvinas Exclusion Zone—and was sailing AWAY from the islands! When the young Argentinean boys aboard The Belgrano had suffered a most appalling and unjust death, Thatcher gave the thumbs-up sign for the British press.

Iron? No. Barbaric? Yes. She hated feminists even though it was largely due to the progression of the women's movement that the British people allowed themselves to accept that a prime minister could actually be female. But because of Thatcher, there will never again be another woman in power in British politics, and rather than opening that particular door for other women, she closed it.

Thatcher will only be fondly remembered by sentimentalists who did not suffer under her leadership, but the majority of British working people have forgotten her already, and the people of Argentina will be celebrating her death. As a matter of recorded fact, Thatcher was a terror without an atom of humanity.

MORRISSEY.

I could talk for hours about Warhol's Factory within a serious historical context but Smashing Pumpkins fans are pretty fucking stupid and will just believe what they want to believe.

I mean just reading that little paragraph proves that he is completely unaware of Warhol within the context of history, which is a huge problem for SP fans in general.

I blame YouTube and social media - it throws everything in your lap right now and makes everything seem so common.

Has ragging on the fans replaced ragging on Bill? Is that where we're at now?

yeah i felt like if i bothered explaining it, it would be on completely deaf ears since mr. "I think Dio is better than Ozzy" has already decided what he thinks

i don't even know that much about warhol, i would actually be interested in your dissertation slunk

i just know he is responsible for recording the velvets, and one of the great rock records of all time, and i am thankful

that just shows to me that he wasn't just a guy who made everything "cool" because he was "cool"
he was a guy who had a very keen idea of what art was, what made it relevant, and how it fit to his era
if VU was some ole bullshit it wouldn't have had the lasting legacy it does

He wasn't actaully responsible for recording them, it was just the help of his influence that it happened at all. All he'd have to do would be to walk in the studio every now and then and be like "oh wow, that sounds fantaaaastic, don't you think?" and everyone went along with it because he liked it.

Tom Wilson was actually the guy that recorded and engineered their first and second records, who previously worked with The Mothers of Invention, Simon and Gafunkel, and Bob Dylan.

well yeah it's hard to exactly put it into a consice word other than he "signed" them or "discovered" them i guess is the best way to put it

his money went into VU & Nico, and he was the one who brought Nico in.

OH yeah of course and the cover. I am quite a fan of covers like that have stuff that you can take off or adjust or move and shit.

I think it's more important that he hosted them at The Factory, getting a record done was a logical followup to that, especially as it was treated as an art piece.
