Default How to Get Zeitgeist on Vinyl (Long Shot, but Possible)

Ok, so as a collector, one of the newer labels that I have been very impressed with is Artist in Residence (ArtistsInResidence - A+R -). Last year, they released 2 items on vinyl:

1) Sigur Ros--In a Frozen Sea 7LP boxset limited to 5000 copies.

2) NIN Ghosts I-IV 4LP set with 2CDs, 1 DVD and 1 Blu-Ray disc that was limited to 2500 copies and signed by Trent Reznor.

In 2009, they just released Beck's, The Information on 4LPs, 1 10" and limited to 3000 copies.

Future releases for this year ******* the Pixies, Death Cab for Cutie and more.

All of there sets are very well made (there were some issues with the some of the NIN vinyl sets, but all were replaced.)

They have a request section in their forums and you can e-mail them directly. I did e-mail them and propose that they try to work with Billy/SP on doing a limited-edition deluxe vinyl set for Zeitgeist that would contain all of the songs from the various versions (e.g. Best Buy deluxe edition, the Guitar Center "SuperChrist" song, maybe the "American Gothic EP", etc.)

Since Billy is no longer tied to Reprise Records, this may work. It took a couple of years before Beck's The Information made it to vinyl and Beck is still in his contract.

This would be something that would appease those of us who collect SP Vinyl. There are a lot of creative things I am sure they could do. I know this is a long shot, but if we sent enough requests to them and asked them to do it, you never know, we may see Zeitgeist on vinyl, which is long overdue in my opinion.

Thoughts? Comments? Do I need to put my crack pipe down? hehehe.

If you want to e-mail them, you can e-mail [email protected]

Later,

Shawn

I already said that I e-mailed them. However, my point is that the more people that e-mail them, the more people they think want to see this on vinyl.

We need to start a "get Zeitgeist on vinyl" campaign.

it was originally planned for a vinyl release, I even had it pre ordered, so I'm sure they thought about releasing it.. but like cigarski said, I doubt enough of an interest is really there on either side anymore.

wouldn't Reprise Records own the mechanical rights to a release, and it would have to go through them.../?
i doubt they want to do anything more for billy,
virgin didn't even want to do re-releases ....
billy is someone people split with on bad terms,
only crazy courtney is "still" friends with him , cause she's crazy obviously.
and jimmy. and we all know he's taken lots of drugs.

a 7LP box set for ONE album must be really annoying for people who actually listen to it.

Yes, Reprise Records would have to give the final approval. However, A&R foots the bill for the entire production run. So it really costs Reprise nothing to approve this. This would afford them (and Billy) another revenue stream, if they so choose to take advantage of it.

In addition, the exclusivity agreements with ITunes, Best Buy, etc. were likely only for a CD format, not a vinyl format.

This would be a very low pressing (probably no more than 3000 copies, based on recent A&R history) and there should be enough fans/collectors to snatch them up quickly, I would hope.

All I am saying is that it deserves a vinyl release and this might be an option.

Electron52: The Sigor Ros set was actually putting 3LPs that were out-of-print into the boxset.

this should sum it up nicely.

Tribune: So "Zeitgeist" was the last album?

Corgan: We're done with that. There is no point. People don't even listen to it all. They put it on their iPod, they drag over the two singles, and skip over the rest. The listening patterns have changed, so why are we killing ourselves to do albums, to create balance, and do the arty track to set up the single? It's done.

hypothetically speaking, if this were to go ahead, what would be the rough price area?

Whew. When I clicked this link, I was thinking that this would be some kind of DIY thread.

Now THAT is a long shot.

Thanks for reminding me of record company and (sadly) Billy Corgan's policy on listenership.

Hypothetically speaking, who would possibly want another copy of Zeitgeist other than Bram who collects everything?

I'd buy you a beer without a doubt, Garski.

I can't say as much about the Zeit. Maybe I'd buy it since it had everything included though.
