Default your local music scene...

tell me about it. is it non-exhistant? thriving? i'm diggin' the minneapolis/st paul music scene right now. we have a few pretty decent bands. seeing them live is better than listening to them on disc. the bands i'm liking right now are: gay witch abortion, solid gold, baby guts (they're more punk/thrash. i like them because the lead singer is a chick playing guitar), and vampire hands... to name a few. i like my city because it's big enough where touring bands will stop along their way. i can only assume des moines' local music scene sucks. also, our local radio station mn public radio is helping the music scene by playing a lot of local music.

People go on about the Perth music scene a lot cause in the last few years a few big names in australian music have come out of here - Little Birdy, Sleepy Jackson, Birds Of Tokyo, Eskimo Joe, The Dirty Secrets etc.etc.etc. but i find most of that stuff insufferably bad. We have a few interesting little pockets opening up though. In the last 3 years the experimental/noise/drone scene has really come to life and there's quite a few cool no-wavey kinda DIY post-punk bands emerging recently too.

I work with the frontmans girlfriend. She doesn't like me.,

this town is full of posers who upgraded from their fender starter pack 6 months ago.other than that there's a pretty thriving thrash/grind/hardcore thing going on which is fun to watch.

Rhode Island in general has a pretty awesome local scene. Providence is pretty loaded with small venues including AS220, which is a non-profit art gallery that has shows every night (usually local bands only with the occasional exception). There tends to be a few more metal bands/metal kids than I'd care for but there are a lot of good underground type shows if you know where to look. I'd say its thriving here, and has been for a long time now... I used to have my mom drop me off to play shows in middle school :\.

It's doing alright. Our local music venue was voted the best small venue in Canada. If that even means anything, which it doesn't because the voting system was flawed. We have a large range of styles that get a lot of press, but for the most part I believe we have bands that rip off simple plan and company. Local radio stations help and we have a great University station that has been independent for 30 years now.

austin sucks.

oh sure there is a lot going on and you can always find SOMETHING to see but everybody in a band thinks they are 'totally unique' and 'unclassifiable.' it gets old. the fads change every 3 years and so do the bands.

the sad truth is all music from austin turns into the same thing, and the fans in austin will turn their backs on an artist the minute that artist decides its time to branch out to a wider audience. if a band plays up to being from austin their home fan base will drop them the minute they have larger success.
