This songs awesome too. It was a reworked outtake. Vintage Weezer goodness

So as much as Weezer hasn't lived up to their initial awesomeness, their output has still manged to be miles ahead of Smashing Pumpkins and Billy Corgan IMHO

The thing with Billy Corgan is that the mixing has been total shit for so a lot of the post-2000 material... It's something that has never really plagued Rivers.

Green album is garbage.

Blue and Pinkerton are good. Everything else I’ve heard is bad. Beverly Hills is one of the worst songs ever.

I always thought Beverly Hills sounded like The Joker by Steve Miller Band, and it turns out there's a reason for that:

Rivers' songwriting technique literally involves copying a progression from a preexisting hit and then singing a new melody that he later fills in with random lyrics from a spreadsheet.

& yeah, frankly - from afar at least - Weezer seem like a much more enjoyable band to be into in 2018 than Smashing Crumpkins

When it comes to post-Pinkerton, the only albums worth talking about are The White Album and EWBAITE. Both are wayyy better than they had any right to be. Shame they went right back to making absolutely shit music.

And fuzzy, stop cherry picking shit from the other albums and pretending everything is ok. Shit is shit. Just because you find a few kernels of corn in said shit doesn't mean you should indulge.

You know what though? At least “Beverly Hills” makes enough sense that people want to listen to it. What the hell was Billy thinking releasing a single with “I WILL BE....SPECIAL K” in the chorus. From that perspective, Rivers is winning.

At least with shit like "Beverly Hills" and most Weezer songs, really, you get the impression they're at least partially tongue & cheek. You think Billy's giggling about Widow Wake My Mind?

i think the special k thing was just him hijacking something he heard on a Placebo song 10 years prior, tbh. except when bill sings it it's about the fucking cereal

I will admit that my liking make believe is like 90% nostalgia. B. and I drove around listening to that album (along with a few other choice records) that summer.

why does no one ever talk about Maladroit

it's always just immediate shitting on Green or Make Believe, i've never heard the record but i've rarely heard ABOUT it either

what's the deal, does it even really exist?

I really like Maladroit. I remember downloading the demos Weezer posted on their website before it was released, and they left off this beaut!

For me as a music fan, I'm generally happy if an album has even 2 or 3 songs that I like. It's when a band completely swings and misses that I lose interest. The only 2 Weezer albums where I haven't liked anything have been Make Believe and Hurly. Every other release has at least some good shit.

For me, Weezers definitely gotten more consistent and they've been cranking out albums at a higher frequency which helps as a fan too. Don't get me wrong, there's been a lot of shit too. Some of their recent singles have been total throwaways for me.
