Default Pumpkins Board, Pumpkin Fans?

It's wild to see so many people hate on the Pumpkins and Billy on this forum. Even though their name or thumbnail picture is Pumpkins related i see so much shit like Billy hasn't wrote a good song since the 90's and on and on.

Everyone is allowed their opinion but isn't this a FAN board? why so much hate?

P.S Oceania is a fucking INCREDIBLE album from start to finish. It was written 6 years ago. Have a good day.

The answer is more nuanced than to just dismiss everything as "hate".
People can be overly critical, but it mostly comes from a place of admiration.

Excluding recent events which let us in the lowest and more repulsive aspects of the personality of the people behind the music.

Have a good day.

Whenever there's a big announcement, there's always a flood of out-of-towners and noobs who try too hard to fit in to the reputation that precedes Netphoria.

this is super interesting. /s

but jeff is the worst and has ruined the SP brand.
here at netphoria we call it like it is, and billy is a lame 50 year old. there's no more rock and roll, just old men trying to cash in to buy wrestling brands as toys.

Nope.
Pinwheels, Inkless, Glissandra and Wild flower are ok.

But compared to other bands output Oceania is bad. Compared to previous Pumpkins albums it's bad.

Zeitgeist had better songs (just the production made them unlistenable). MTAE & Ogilala are better.

I even think Teargarden had stronger tracks: Tom Tom, A Stitch in Time, Freak, Lightning Strikes, Cottonwood. If only Owata wasn't ruined by synths it'd be one of Corgan's strongest post-00's tracks. And this is where bandmates come in: You think James, Jimmy and D'arcy would've signed off on Owata in that state?

Oceania has a few decent numbers but it's too bloated, suffers from really bad lyrics and bad production. It's not utter dogshit - it was the first of BC's works in a really long time to get me to step back in and see what he was up to - but it's a far fucking cry from the original band's output.

I tend to listen to albums in full, and absolutely cannot get through it without skipping tracks, and when I do it's never the same ones. There's just not much that really jumps out to grab your attention.

I like Oceania. It was the best thing BC had done since Machina, and at least sounded like the Pumpkins in places.

I have good memories of it. I remember listening to Quasar with my kid and he made a comment about it, which I tweet to @Billy, who then retweeted it, which was kind of cool. The intro to that song is very cool, as is the middle breakdown part.

Inkless / Chimera / Glissandra do have that classic SP sound. I agree the drumming is all over the place and sounds awful; it's that modern production drum sound where everything is reduced to a thud. Hopefully any new SP material won't fall foul to that approach; JC always had a very distinctive drum sound.

Pale Horse and Special K are musically okay imo but I don't like the lyrics very much on either

As shocking as it may be, it's actually possible for people to be fans of a band while hating on or disagreeing with things members have done. Like so many of the decisions Billy has made since reforming the band.
