I remember being 17 and being disturbed that he was turning 30.

50 huh. He gets less views at Youtube than some homeschooling mothers I follow who post videos of how they educate their kids and what they're making for dinner.

"And speaking of those I've been fortunate enough to share the stage with, I see that it's D'arcy Wretzky's birthday today: So a big and happy B-Day to her from here! I'm encouraged to hear that she is playing music once more, and writing songs. As I've often said, no one had better musical discernment in our band than she."

...just stumbled upon this article from 2009...LOL:

Quote:
When he was well enough to head to the airport, he looked at the ticket and realized it was first class.

Maybe, his mother suggested, it was because he had to re-book on late notice. No coach left, so he had to go in style. Turns out, no, that wasn't it. Byrne flies first class now. He called his parents when he landed to declare the flight attendants had served him warm cookies and milk.

"I'm such a rock star," he told his mom.

Still, when Chris Byrne arrived in Chicago she found his hotel room kitchen filled with Top Ramen, mac and cheese and HotPockets. He left her a key at the desk because he was still at the studio, hard at work. While he was well taken care of during the stay in California, Chris Byrne says this is Mike's first work under his new Smashing Pumpkins contract. Without being specific, she sounds impressed by the details.
Quote:
Mom and Dad worry, yes. But Chris Byrne says Mike has talked about wanting to stay away from drugs, because that would take away from the art and the music. She realizes that she'd be just as worried if he had moved across the country for college.

As for Byrne, you haven't heard excitement until you've heard him talk. There was one night on that mini-tour where he flubbed the beginning of a song. Corgan stopped the band and made a crack about rookie mistakes. The place went nuts.

"I can screw up and they're still happy with me," Byrne says. "That's awesome."

It will never happen due to non-disclosures, but I would absolutely love to hear the tales of dealing with Billy Corgan professionally from an older, more grizzled Mike Byrne. I wonder what his thoughts are on the whole thing now.

It began to feel real in that way a dream does when you wake up and you wonder, "Did that really happen?" It had really happened.

He really had visited the Zildjian headquarters, where he had his pick of the finest drum equipment available -- the best cymbals imaginable. "Cymbals that are typically so far out of my price range it's ridiculous," he says. "It was a really, really good day to say the least."

He really was working with the band and producer Kerry Brown in an old house off Ventura Boulevard in Hollywood. And, after he played his first show with the band in the backyard of that house, that really was Jessica Simpson who walked over and talked to him, followed by actor Zach Braff, followed by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell.

"That guy, everything he says, it's almost like mystic," Byrne says of Farrell.

That really was Byrne's name in Rolling Stone when, finally, on Aug. 17, he was officially announced as the new Smashing Pumpkins drummer.

"He truly deserves this opportunity," Corgan said in a statement. "I believe in my heart he will push me to be a better musician."

Byrne joined Corgan on a short tour in August that earned solid reviews and -- what do you know? -- he really did have someone whose job it was to care for and carry his drum kit.

"We hire people to do it," he was told.

A dream come true that became a nightmare...?

williampcorganReflecting on today's special day, I find that each birthday that passes I am more concerned with those around me and less and less so with myself (which is its own magical blessing).I have lived a selfish life, which has had it's benefits in the creation of art and commerce, and of course justified a wildness in me that can never be quenched, but let me assure you there is no greater gift than that of being in communion with those you love.
So if there's a message there, it is balance: yes! Live your dream without apology, but if you can't share it with a full heart, and give of it freely, then the dream itself must be false.
I am so, so grateful for the hundreds of kind messages from every corner of the world. It certainly causes me to reflect on how my visions from a cold, damp basement about 30 miles from where I sit (some 35 years ago!) connected with you. It certainly is a mind-blowing thought to think that which we can do can touch another, and we all have that chance, or capability for affectation and change. I can truly say life IS wonderful, and that sense I have is informed by the wonderful and profane, if not the stars and what's silly in us.
It humbles me to even have a place to share there things, for I am no more or less (inside) than that teen who dreamt big to get out and 'see the world.' Well, I saw it, and I'm still home. And I still want to go like mad, if only to return and start all over again.

I honestly don't like this... I mean after getting pissed off for years about pro asking for those "famous songs" to be played live, here they are with these tshirt sto make money. Thanks but, no thanks. I mean, clever them because they know how to "use" all the fan-atic fans out there.
