crabshack really is the fucking worst

he's such a classic portrayal of that self loathing teenager who only knows how to stand by the sidelines and make fun of everybody else because he knows anything he can do will always be infinitely worse than what he's criticizing

On a lot of forums, the works of the soloists often end up sounding like overlong loop pedal demos taken from unwatched product review channels on YouTube.

I like that cork_soaker is doing something different.

people of course do this kind of thing all the time, but it was a new endeavor here.

haha, just say ableton, karl.

fwiw i like the first one much better than the follow up.
it does retain the 'feeling up sounds with your fingertips' element of your works, but feels indeed less structured and more like a 'noise solo'. i still dig it, and even though it may be (perhaps, not sure yet tbh) somewhat less gratifying for me i love and respect how you force yourself to remain fresh and don't allow yourself to get too comfortable with a mold.

apologies for the somewhat mansplain-y description earlier; the non-linear approach is totally new to me, and wasn't sure how familiar others here would be.

there are two programs i'm experimenting with at the moment -- one is a set of plugins called ppooll, which runs in Max, and then AudioMulch. haven't looked into ableton just yet, but am aware of its existence.

thanks for the thoughts and taking the time to listen, as always. my thinking thus far in terms of the new tools is to not use them in a performative sense (at least not now), but rather just use them to build sounds/textures, which i'll export and assemble elsewhere. who knows. herg bglerg.

i often apply melody and lyric to stuff when I play, but not this one as yet. i don't want to leave it behind though, there's something there worth building.

that's not bad, warhol.

i thought the vocal was a bit off - it could either have worked better more gravelly, tom waits style, or just with a more elaborate arrangement. there's a lot of space to fill out in that song, tons of possibilities (in a good way). those 'oohs' in the end are a step in the right direction, i think. i liked the overall vibe.

yeah i tried transposing it down a bit to be able to sing in my lower/natural register on the chorus, but then the verses were too low for me to hit the notes. i debated throwing those oohs int he earlier choruses but i thought it was a nice way to make the last one distinct and less uh..pointless? haha. thanks for the feedback though, if i ever go back to a studio and redo these i'll probably take another look at this one.

I like the presence in your sound corker. It's active, it breathes.

Paul comes into the dungeon and takes over the rig while I get on the mic eventually and scat about for a bit. Since the in-store in S.F. in 2000 we've either been best friends, bandmates and/or roommates since then but rarely at the same time. He played with Analogue in Act IV one year.

thanks very much for giving it a listen, and for the comment.

part of what i shoot for in these pieces is the sense that the "sound" is an autonomous entity, shifting and evolving on its own without a composer at the helm

nah.....why you delete that? I was checking that stuff out from time to time.

I been kinda thinking about you're approach to music corker, of all things. I like to get ambient echo driven psychedelia patterns emerging as if flying a kite; the more it gets away from you, the more finesse it takes to real back in. For me though, I crash land often. You seem to be a natural at it.
