goth is just fundamentally an embarrassing genre though... I know people can use that same narrative for punk or metal but I really do think Goth takes the cake in that field

The stuff from the Twelve Inch Singles years probably qualifies as goth rock to some extent. Ministry's probably one of the biggest links between the goth associations of 80's post-punk and 90's industrial rock.
