Default The Kindness Regime asks everyone to submit to mandatory testing

I hate to alarm you all but it's possible there are fascists living, working, even trolling among us. Although there is no credible evidence of any immediate threat, you are being asked to take the test seriously and answer all questions as honestly as possible. If any fascists are identified we will determine a course of action as the contingency arises.

The F Scale

We practice common law around here, so I submitted myself for testing. As a natural enemy of most fascistic political principles, I was unsurprised to receive a score of 1.5, well below the average person's susceptibility to fascist ideas.

according to the info on the bottom of the page:

Quote:
3 - 4.5: Within normal limits; an appropriate score for an American. (The overall average score for groups tested in the original study is listed in the 1950 publication as 3.84, with men averaging somewhat higher and women somewhat lower.)

It's not asking about disasters in general but specific biblical end-of-days scenarios.

it's a funny test because the questions are very era-specific, and some of them can take on different connotations today like the natural disaster one... but yeah, I believe it is actually prodding you to check for a belief in an apocalyptic end of days eschatological view of history. The questions also seem to lead the test-taker away from admitting their fascistic tendencies IMO but that is probably because they focus on very obvious manifestations of these beliefs (to our 21st century minds). If I had to guess, I would say a lot of folks today would compartmentalize and answer strongly disagree on some questions even though they espouse these ideas in more subtle ways.

My favorite is some people are born with a desire to jump from high places.

I found this question dumb, too. Yeah, it is possible a disaster will destroy the world. But since they specifically said "earthquake or flood," and I doubt either one of those phenomena could ever occur on such a scale as to destroy all the humans on all the continents (I mean, maybe a great flood could sink a lot of coastal cities and cause food shortages for everyone else, but what kind of earthquake is fucking worldwide), I disagreed with it.

I don't really get the whole idea of linking supernaturalism to authoritarian belief. The Political Compass test does it, too. Sure, a lot of right-wing fundies believe in spooky phenomena guiding destinies, but it seems like there's also a lot of individualist new-agey types who believe in mystic shit, and a lot of authoritarian people would probably strongly dislike things like astrology, which these tests seem to tie to authoritarianism.

Maybe the reasoning is that people that accept things without asking for evidence are more prone to authoritarianism

But there are a lot of spiritual liberals Ofc

well first remember that fascism is a very specific type of authoritarianism. one basic tenet of fascism is the rejection of Enlightenment values such as reason, logic, science, popular rule, etc as things which have failed humanity, and to turn instead to supernaturalism, occultism, believe that passion and power are more important than being analytical and open minded...

I think it makes sense. The Nazis took a developed liberal democracy and hotbed for art and scientific development and transformed it into a society based around a quasi-occultist state religion with a mythology promoting an alternate history of humankind. You are correct that fascism is not the only ideology which promotes these kinds of views, but it is something that all fascisms have in common. In the Nazi worldview, Hitler was like the ubermensch, an almost deified super man destined to lead the state, which people also revered as a supernaturally appointed force. Remember also that these questions were written to test the 1950 American public for susceptibility to these ideas. I imagine a modernized version of the test would be different.

also keep in mind that the guy who wrote this test could never prove it was an accurate measurement of anything, and everything else he ever did academically was discredited. Soooooo

but you can read more about the test on that page, and there is a link to a good (although subjective) discussion of what fascism actually means.
