Default Let's List All the Bands Billy Has Publicly Taken a Dump On

https://uproxx.files.wordpress.com/2...jpg?quality=95

After Scott Weiland died, Billy released this statement in which he praised his voice and apologized for all the crap he gave STP early on in their career. I had somehow missed that entirely when it happened; I didn't know he had any beef with STP, though it didn't surprise me. It got me thinking about all the bands -- particularly those of his own era -- he's taken a shit on in interviews and other places. I don't know why he's felt such a need to be a dick to so many of his contemporaries, but given that he's done this to every single member of every single band he's ever been in (I think), I guess it just makes sense.

Anyway, these are the bands that I know Billy has been a public dick to in some way, shape or form. I got some of these from this article.

STP
Nirvana
Pavement
Mott the Hoople
Bush
Soundgarden
Hole (though I blame Courtney for this more than Billy)
Radiohead
Screaming Trees

I'm sure there are tons of others. Anyone else have ones I'm blanking on?

Deerhunter (don't touch his water bottles!)
The Used (kicked singer in the gut)
Animal Collective (in their prime, can't find an exact quote but he's definitely not a fan)

Haven't heard him speak a word on Wilco despite both being from Chicago, I assume he has a backhanded compliment for them.

Oh yeah, I remember the thing with guy from The Used. It all started after the debacle with Sharon and Kelly Osbourne.

From the article regarding Soundgarden: “They’re just out there to have one more round at the till; same with Pavement and these other bands.”

And what do you call the Shiny tour? I love how Billy always ends up eating his words. He is just so volatile and never thinks before he speaks.

Seriously. But someone asked him about that directly on Insta and he had some stupid pretentious answer about how the tide has turned and things have changed now. Translation: When other bands do it, it's a cash grab. But when I do it, it's artistic expression.

Oasis (D'arcy thought they were great and Billy made some snide remark about them)
Wilco (In a radio interview in the 90's James said he wanted to listen to some Wilco and Billy said that's never a good idea)

Interesting that Billy says he's cool with Gavin now. Because they routinely took swipes at each other in the mid 90's. Actually saw Bush last night and they put on a better show than the SP shiny show I saw a few weeks back, not to mention the crowd was about 10x more into it.

I will never find the quote, but yeah. Maybe around the 10th anniversary of YHF's release, he said something along the lines of, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is considered a classic, defining album now and it spoke to a lot of people, but it didn't actually have any impact like the defining bands of his own era.

I wish I got to see Bush this tour. Always thought they put on a good show from what I heard. Saw from some picks that Gavin went into the crowd at every show.

How was The Cult and STP?

It was a killer rock show all around. Yeah, it was at the Woodlands Pavillion and Gavin went into the crowd all the way back to the lawn. Dude has insane energy for a 53 year old. STP was great, the new guy sounds good. And the Cult is always good, Billy Duffy is such a bad ass guitarist.

Yeah I saw that tour in Virginia last week and had a blast. The Cult were crazy good; Ian Astbury might look like Tommy Wiseau now but he still can wail and Billy Duffy is a guitar god. I didn’t want to give the new STP singer and chance at all, but he totally won me over, so much so that I downloaded their new album afterwards and I’ve been listening to it damn near every day since. And Gavin was awesome. I love how he goes the whole way through the crowd during Little Things. He did that at a show I saw him play last year too.

As for whether it was better than the Shiny tour... eh, as much as I shit on Billy, I would still say overall this SP tour is good, even with the bad stuff (the Billy Christ, Baby Mine, Mark Fucking McGrath). Ian, Jeff and Gavin all make more of an effort to connect to the crowd than Billy does but I’d say they all sounded good.

Yeah, I've heard of the band. I didn't know Bilbo took a swipe at them.

"I'm not thrilled with the Foo Fighters."

"Am I supposed to be impressed by The Cardigans? Are they a big band?"

" At the end of the day it's a Backstreet Boys world and you just wanna go home and kill yourself".

What the hell is wrong with this thread? I can't scroll past the post with the Mott the Hoople video. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried three different browsers and it's all the same thing.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I have to click on reply to see posts after that damn Mott The Hoople video. Everyone put mplsTaper on ignore and it solves the problem; he deserves it for being a Mott The Hoople fan anyway!

I just remember some interview for MCIS when the interviewer asked Jimmy if some of it was influenced by Nine Inch Nails (or maybe it was just Jim saying that unprovoked) and Bill was just like "nah... come on..."

That's all I got, he seems to be more or less a fan these days though
