Default Am I the only one who thinks Adelles super lame?

I like a lot of the mainstream pop stuff out there, but I don't understand at all how Adelles so highly revered. Her songs and songwriting are terribly boring. Is this just another case of the masses enjoying the most bland accessible music or do any of you guys actually like this shit?

Adele is ok, she has a good voice and some of the songs have some meat to them. No more, no less.

and for god's sake fuzzy, please use an apostrophe when you're contracting someone's name like "adele is" = "adele's"
corgan is = "corgan's" etc, for my sake, please, it drives me crazy

I do find her more insufferably boring than most. I was just thinking that I liked that Mercy song she did but actually that was Duffy.

Yeah, I mean I don't get the phenomenon. Theres been countless other artists that have came out that have the same kind of vocal sound trying to capitalize on the craze. And her voice is pretty good I guess, it's just that the songs really suck.

I hear that "Someone like you" and "Rumor has it" at my work all of the time and they're both just terrible songs and now everyones losing their shit over her crappy new stuff.

Atleast with singers like Swiff, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga you can kind of understand where the appeals coming from.

I remember even goddamned Dave Grohl was going on about how great Adelles first album was. What am I missing here?

Fair enough, but shes been one of the top grossing artists of this generation... Clearly theres a broader appeal than some of her songs have some meat on em and her voice is good.

I considered making this thread recently.

I don't get it either. She has a good voice and she's got some decent hooks but the hype is way overblown.

She's definitely no t swizzle

You say that as if Grohl ought to be listened to. In any way, shape, or form.

Guy's a fucking awesome drummer. Definitely an underrated factor in Nirvanas explosive sound these days. I don't really know mcuh post 1997 foo-fighters aside from the singles and from what I've heard it ranges from bland as hell to pretty cool. Even with that said, the guy just rips it live. As lukewarm as I am about his recent musical output I still respect the guys values and what he has to say about music. And when even he's losing his shit over Adelle it's just like "what am I missing?"

Grohl genuinely seems like a good guy. Gotta respect that he allowed a hard up for money Pat Smear back in the band even though they already had a steady 2nd guitarist.

He put out a new EP for free. I've only heard the lead song so far, but it's actually pretty good. Nothing earth shattering but I actually like the vibe to it. Definitely a slow burner that gets better as it progresses.

I've just noticed theres a song called The Neverending Sigh on the EP. A nod to The Everlasting Gaze?

Her big breakthrough single had a pretty good hook but everything since has sounded like the typical stuff a 45 year old music hobbyist would write for fun in his spare time. Someone Like You is really just a terrible run of the mill song that any guy who can play a little piano trying to write a ballad could easily write.

What does "ripping it live" have to do with having anything of value to say

I have to question if anyone who has not heard of Taylor Swift is actually living on this planet, toc to thread.

I like the chorus in that Foos song a bit. I've never thought they got shitty, just that they keep performing the exact same trick over and over and it's not 1998 anymore. They have nothing interesting to contribute to music anymore, but I agree that Dave Grohl seems like a cool, down to Earth guy. He does what he does for the fans. I can't say I've seen them recently, but 10 years ago, the Foo Fighters were still very very powerful live.

I've only heard the singles from her last album, plus Hello and whatever song comes next after Hello on her new album.

I like Hello and the song that comes after it (something about Lover?) but I'm not racing to hear more.

I will say that B. doesn't have a whole lot of favorite artists. She's more into songs than albums/artists.
After a decade of being with her, I know she likes:
Any and all Fiona Apple
Coldplay (up til Viva La Vida)
Tegan and Sara (So Jealous & The Con albums)
Funk
Oldies
Classic rock

And fucking Adele. I can see Adele reaching Fiona status eventually.

I don't actively listen to her, but like everything I've ever heard by chance. Adele's obviously on another level where she can do ridiculously well without try-hard marketing bs and I respect that a lot. Her voice alone.

I like some of Taylor Swift's singles. They play Shake it Off at my gym a lot and it's fun. She's only mildly talented but I was happy when she embraced the crazy in Blank Space. The problem is her personality. I used to think she was harmless, but everything I read about her deplorable antics to stay relevant and liked by everyone (bs "squad", fake concern for independent musicians, etc) is a huge turn off. I'd never spend a single penny on her. Lady Gaga is obviously talented as well, but I don't respond to that kind of music much. Katy Perry shouldn't even have a career, honestly at a loss as to how she has committed fans. Like... why?

Obviously Fiona Apple (and Liz Phair in EiG) is more my thing than any of them, but Adele is my choice of widely popular singer by far.

Yeah Swift has a few catchy tunes or whatever but her "cutesy" singing voice just kind of ruins them for me. I originally thought her ditzy lyrics were just pandering to her target audience but I've seen a few interviews with her on talkshows and she really does seem like there's not much going on upstairs in her mind. She comes across as a shallow 15 year old and shes like pushing 30 lol
