Red face bonnaroo 2014

lineup announcement on the 19th.

elton john and kanye west "highly likely", according to inforoo user insider, who has been pretty accurate with their information in previous years.

as usual I will be there. disappointed that outkast are out but I never wind up seeing more than one headliner anyways

having already seen him a couple times, i'm not keen on seeing kanye at all, so outkast would have been much preferred. but with outkast doing 40whatever other fests this year, i'll hope they do the local soundset hip-hop fest over memorial day weekend (on whatever day they're not at sasquatch), which would be a more enjoyable venue for me to see them at than roo.

Kanye is amazing live performer.

I figured his reputation at Bonnaroo was forever tarnished since back in 07 or 08 he had a 1 am show or something that kept getting delayed and pushed back until like 6 in the morning and he was booed throughout the performance because of it.

i, too, am surprised by his (assumed) return. but it was 6 years ago, so...

the 08 show was supposed be at 8 on the which stage but got moved to the what stage at 2am after kanye had a hissy fit about not being on the main stage. pearl jam ran long that night, which pushed it back another hour, and then kanye took his sweet ass time getting out there, eventually starting around 4:30 when the sun was starting to rise. he was performing in full daylight by the time he was done with his 'glow in the dark' show. the crowd was happy at 2:30. they weren't happy at 4:30. and the field was maybe a 1/4 full at 6:30.

shitty deal, for the most part. but only at bonnaroo can you see kanye west performing in a farm field at 6 in the morning.

i've seen kanye at lolla and roo, and i don't feel i need to see him again.

I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall... Why???? I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. This is the most offended I've ever been... this is the maddest I ever will be. I'm typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!! Call me any name you want.... arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro, fag whatever you can think of.... BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! THIS SHOWS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO BE GOOD AT SOMETHING THERE WILL BE PEOPLE THERE TO LIE ABOUT YOU AND BRING YOU DOWN! LIKE WAYNE SAYS PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME DOWN CAUSE I'M FLYING! I'M FUCKING HURT BY THIS ONE. ALL I CARE ABOUT ARE THE FANS. JUST SAY THIS OUT LOUD IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, "KANYE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GIVING A GOOD PERFORMANCE." CAN ANYONE HONESTLY SAY THAT ????????? HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST DO THE MATH??? BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T LET'S BREAK DOWN THE WALLS ON THIS TRUMAN SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY OCCURRED!!! FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES... WE'D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY'D SAY OK... THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN'T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH FUCKING IDIOTS WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY. THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS! MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED. FAST FOWARD TO THE DAY OF THE SHOW. MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN'T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE. PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR
LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THAT POINT WE'RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, " IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!" I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV?????? WHEN I GOT 2 "THROUGH THE WIRE" I STEPPED ON THE FRONT PART OF MY STAGE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH LIQUID ON THE STAGE I COULDN'T MOVE WITHOUT SLIPPING. I HAD TO ADJUST MY WHOLE PERFORMANCE STYLE BECAUSE OF IT. A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT'S WAY UP.. I CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE I WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN. I'VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT'S CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES. IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME. ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN'T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT'S GREATEST FORM... BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART. I'M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I'M SORRY... SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE... I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT... HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF... CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL!!!

Animal Collective was extremely disappointing when I saw them at Bonnaroo in 2009. I was so psyched to finally see them live but they were a huge letdown. I think the main problem was that they were performing right in the middle of the hottest day there where it was too hot to do anything but sit in whatever shade you could find. I feel like they would be a much better late night set.

i read that whole thing, and while i was laughing the whole time, those concerns are 100% legitimate.

if you're headlining, and you don't go on till 6 am because of bullshit that could be completely averted due to incompetant promoters, then yeah, that is reason to be pissed off.

this though

kanye just has a terrible time of communicating himself to be honest, he could help himself by not getting all emotional and shouting but then again that's the man he is -- problem is so many disrespect him and don't take his passion for music seriously, like he's just throwing some shit together. i dunno. when he says he wanted his fans to experience stronger and he struggled with just the stage presentation for so long...i believe him. he's much much much more meticulous than the general public gives him credit for

at least the reason wasn't because it was "too cold" outside and your french onion soup wasn't hot enough and you were tired and you had a cold waahh i'm danzig "where's my french onion soup already?"

On the topic of Kanye live though I've seen him twice and he was great both times. First time was when he was a surprise guest with the rest of GOOD Music during Jay Z's set. I was expecting Kanye to be a surprise guest ever since the festival was announced but I never expected the rest of GOOD Music. They did like a hour long set before Jay Z came back out to end the night with Kanye performing Niggas in Paris. That whole set with Jay Z coming out for the first hour was amazing. I think it might be the only time Mercy has been performed live and I was right up close to the stage.

Saw him again on his solo tour with Kenderick Lamar this past November. Dropped the money for the floor tickets and it was easily worth it as we got right up on the stage and it was an unreal show with the high production of it. Took some good pictures from that. I don't know how he will pull it off on a festival stage, not really big enough but I'm sure he will think of something.

i forgot to add- kanye also performed unannounced in atlanta earlier that night for young jeezy's birthday show or something like that. so he wasn't even at the festival when pearl jam concluded (late). i'm sure it doesn't take too long to get to roo from atlanta, maybe 45 minutes, but considering the problems kanye outlined, one would think he'd want to be there to figure shit out if it was that important to him.

i'm sure some blame can be passed around to everyone involved but it's hard to take kanye's complaints seriously when the festival hasn't ever had these types of issues before or since and kanye himself couldn't be bothered to arrive until an hour or two before he was supposed to go on.

but the whole thing did yield the wonderful "squid brains" epithet so at least there's that.

yes. plus, michael winslow doing 'you can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!', among other things, to introduce them.

i remember walking away from the 09 set thinking that was one of the worst shows i'd ever seen. it probably wasn't, but it sucked at the time.

I think we left after three songs in 2009 for St Vincent. I do remember David Byrne dropping one of the best shows I've seen in my entire life later that night

I hate how music festivals have become the way to tour. I usually go to Forecastle in Louisville every year and Masters Musician's in Somerset, Kentucky, but in general I think its a shitty way to see live music.

the nice thing about bonnaroo is that sets are an hour minimum and headliners usually get three
